Formed in 2020, the band Folkrim launches after five singles their second Full-Length-Album, entitled "On Foaming Waves" which arrives just a year after its predecessor through the production company Inverse Records. The Finnish quintet has as its musical core the Folk clearly, but also carries elements of Viking Power and Speed metal. The new work has fourteen tracks with duration ranging between thirty seconds and eight minutes, totaling almost one hour. The production is well done, as well as the mixing, highlighting the passages of classic and mandatory instruments of the genre such as Banjo, Mandolin and others.
The album starts with "Blackout" that soon already shows all the spirit of folk accompanied by melodic guitars and a very fast base, Erno's rash vocals and the powerful drums, complement the set, which has a short solo demonstration of the cool bass. "The Falling Tide" is the longest track of the album and its introduction is quite inspiring, sometimes to relax I like to listen to Celtic songs, and the feeling here was the pretty much the same, with a very great harmony in its composition, leaving the soul alone. There is a moment when a lyrical vocal shine along with just the sound of a drum that is simply magic, preceding a circus metal to wrap up in a drunken and playful tone.
Before Listening, "Brace Yourselves" I imagined to be an intro by having just over 30 seconds, but to my surprise no, it is really a song with beginning and end, reminding me "Speed Of Light" of the countrymen's STRATOVARIUS. "Rövarehumppa" shows plenty of elements that we find in many Black Metal bands while "Under the Black" opens the doors of the sea and our imagination to sail along with the Vikings in their war ship to wage epic battles. "Crack a Cold One" brings a party groove, some tempo changes, making it easy to imagine yourself inside a pub swinging our skeleton. In conclusion, I can say that "On Foaming Waves" is a very interesting album, the band has not lost focus even with such a short period between this and the last work, managing to bring a fun and diverse sound.
