With its well-thought-out concept and atmospherically dense compositions, the album lures the audience into sublime sadness, clings to hearts with icy fingers, and doesn't let go." The album contains eight songs.

"La Sainte-Vierge intervenant en faveur de l'armée française à la bataille de la Monongahéla" is a mouthful of an opening title. It translates to "The holy virgin intervening in favor of the French army at the battle of Monongahela (circa 1755). The sound of the song is pretty unique. Besides the screams in the background, music is indeed well-rounded and composed. Sadness is the main tone in the song for sure. "Le Christ aux Oliviers" is about half as long but has a similar sound. Symphonic elements occupy the background but they could have more presence. It's hard to make out the spoken words in French, but it speaks of anguish and pain. "Érable rouge" is a slower song where the doom and despondence can really sink in deep.

"La voix" begins with more tortured screams but settles into a melancholy feeling that is amplified by spoken word, before returning to the torture. Backing vocals give it an ethereal feeling. "Cantique pour la canonisation de la Vénérable Jeanne d'Arc" is a two-minute gallop over green fields and into the bowels of a city...the very underground of existence. "Le laboureur" begins with solemn clean guitars and that feeling of doom that can't be shaked. Pain can cause a lot of these feelings, depending on how it manifests. The vocals are screams of agony and despair. "Dernier martyr" is the final song before the very short closer. Some very harrowing elements combine with background ambiance to let the woes sink in deep.

Although pain is indeed the driving force on the album, too many of the songs sounded similar to one another, and that is my biggest problem with the album. The band members have some musical abilities, which is the first step in going against the Black Metal blueprint, but their songwriting needs work. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Overall, just mediocre.
