DEATHROLL is a Black Metal band formed in Japan in 2011. I believe Kazu is the main composer but could not find confirmation of this. "Immortality" is the band's sixth full-length release, and contains eight songs. "Don't Understand the Principle of the Thing" is the first cut. It is very chaotic and fast-moving at first but settles into a groove. The vocals are fairly unique...not really what you might expect from the genre...low and nearly guttural. The music has a bit of an amateur quality to it, however, and the leads are pretty bad. Did he fall asleep on his music lessons as a youngster?

"Collapse Ethics" begins with a slower pace and you can really notice the holes in the production. Besides sounding nearly totally chaotic, the production is off. Once again, the lead guitar work is sloppy at best. "Melting Happiness" is a shorter song that begins with screeching leads followed by a simple riff and odd vocal shrieks. This is pretty bad in the scheme of things. "Hell on Earth" isn't much better. The production makes it sound like the songs were recorded in a metal cylinder. It's very muddy, and the guitar work is once again lackadaisical. I'm not saying for the artist to give up forever, I am sincerely hoping he can address some of these things for the next outing.

"Desolate" is more of the same...another set of elementary riffs, amateur drumming, and seriously lacking lead guitar playing. I am somewhat dumbfounded that this is a signed band. "Obscenity Named Brainwashing" is the sixth song in a row with that awful racket. The leads do not match what little melody there is...it almost reminds me of a band-mate of mine back in the day who could play technically very fast, but was totally tone deaf. "Journey to the Underworld" is a pandemonium-laded song that barely follows conventional structures. If he meant to do this on purpose, that is one thing, but I don't believe that was his intention.

"Healing Called the Death" closes the album. Unfortunately, it's more of the same. Overall, sounding more like this was recorded by a garage band without much rehearsal, this album lacks in about as many areas as an album could. Without wanting to insult the artist, I will save my worst comments for myself. It's safe to say that this isn't anything that you can get excited about.
