"Under Blind Reasoning," is the latest from EXALTATION, a Black/Death Metal band from Auckland, New Zealand. Are you a fan of MORBID ANGEL? If so, read more here for something that you will want to hear.
Self-described as "Feral," the rawness will try to wear you out. You may find yourself shell shocked from the violence that is wielded with their instruments. Total annihilation is the goal and forced on you as a listener. Deep from the realm of perpetual darkness, terror awaits. The grimness grabs you. All of this is conceived by the band with the goal of "forcing merciless ruin on our mortal plane and all that dares to exist within it."
You can tell this one is going to be super heavy. They immediately come out slugging on the first track, "Iron Rebellion." Drums, bass, growls, and howls. No fancy guitar solos here. This is what good mosh pits are made of. "Impending Deceased," continues carrying this same torch. We are getting the business end of the stick, beating us down with it and the impending doom that obviously awaits. Through the first three tracks the feel is consistent. The don't slow it down at all except for a brief second on the fourth track, "Ascension," it is my favorite so far.
No time to relax now! You ask for Metal and here you will receive Metal. I bet these guys put on one hell of a forty-five-minute set. You will not be bored; I can assure you of that. I'm really digging the vocals in "Impious Massacre." Sometimes growling and screaming works, sometimes it doesn't. It is working well here. The same thing goes for the next song. Similar, but different, in a good way.
The guitar leads us in and out in the end with more of a mix of speed than we have seen up to this point. It mixes it all up nicely, I can say that this album gets better as you go, maybe even saving the best for last with its unique sound and style. Everything that I said in the beginning was backed up. If you want the heaviest, the darkest music, this would be a great place to stop and listen, until the end.
