Super Hero
She Bites
SHE BITES, the German Rock sensation, who released its debut "Joyride," in the year 2020, now returns with the sophomore melodious and rocking release "Super Hero." The album contains twelve songs. "Eye of the Storm" is the first cut. With a smooth and capable female vocalist, the music is both edgy and melodic. Although, the sound is fairly elementary. "Little Song" is more of a hit than a miss, beginning with charming piano notes leading to a heavier riff full of melody. At times however, it feels like the band is reaching for something that just isn't there. I can really explain it well, but something is missing.
"Running" is a decent song with a memorable chorus and some strong melodies. However, I think the band relies too much on their singer and her talents, because the riffs badly need updating. "True Love" is a tender and bluesy number, with dual vocals with both a female and male singer. This song is more original in nature, and perhaps reflects the band's real and true sense of songwriting. It just feels more genuine. "Crazy" is a soulful number with a faster moving pace. The chorus is rich and full, and the key change is nice and original sound. The title track begins with ominous tones and some background thunder. They are setting up for a big sound that never reaches fruition. The background needs some more sonority.
"Ghost" is a fun-loving song that features more of what I was hoping for on the album...a smooth melody with a memorable chorus and some strong backing vocals. Here you can pick up on more of the band's personality. "Out in the Open" is a more soulful number that features some strong emotional qualities, but is it too little, too late for the band? The chorus hits big and you can sing along easily. "Say It" closes the album. Unfortunately, this is where the band loses me. This song swings with a Pop/Punk sound which is fine, but again, the background is just not full enough. This album is a loose example of how far a great vocalist can take a band. Not that far, unfortunately. In comparison with her great voice, much of the music falls flat and just isn't very memorable. I would look forward to what the band can do next, however.
