Some six years since their last full release, Dutch Thrash Metal Quintet DISQUIET have released their newest offering to the world of Heavy Metal in the form of "Instigate To Annihilate". The 10 track studio album promises to deliver hard hitting riffs and a tracking that draws you in. I can't wait to get stuck in. The album's artwork is epic, and if that is a hint towards what is to come, then colour me intrigued! So, lets get into it.
Opening the record is "Rise Of The Sycophants". Without any messing about we are thrust straight into some thick, heavy riffs. The vocal lines working in perfect unison with the instrumentals to deliver a polished performance. I am absolutely enthralled with this from the get go. "Demonic Firenado" delivers exactly what it says on the tin. A swirling, intense and thrashing track that slaps you square in the face, and you can't help but want more. What I specifically like, is the way the intensity / energy is increased with some simple technical changes, it is just superb musicianship!
"Instigate To Annihilate", the album's titular track, continues with the intensity and the album continues to hare along at a breakneck pace with the music seemingly untiring throughout. The little melodic guitar breaks throughout are a delight to hear and accents all the music superbly. But what I am getting from the music so far is a styling similar to what I would think old school and newer MACHINE HEAD would produce if you were to merge them.
The steady crescendo of "No More Dignity" barely does enough to contain my excitement. Its epic introduction builds and builds to a rapturous main body, dealing blow after delicious blow upon me. Whilst it is slightly steadier feeling than other tracks, it still succeeds in producing that hard hitting and thunderous blend of Thrash and Death Metal that has just become so immediately identifiable as DISQUIET's own personal brand of Brutal Heavy Metal.
Closing out the record, and one of the singles, is "The Final Trumpet". Instantly the intro just has me hooked. Dual melodic guitars and some technical content that is just to die for. Sean's vocals continue to hammer home some brutal tracking, but this time he is supported by Charlotte Wessels and it adds an entirely different dimension to the music. It's truly wonderful. As I said, if the artwork was to give me an indication towards what to expect musically, then it hit the nail right on the head.
Overall this is superb (I'm sure you're all shocked). I absolutely loved this album, in fact I couldn't even finish listening it through once before I was telling friends to check it out. It is a fantastic album that all fans of Metal NEED to hear. Trust me you won't regret it.
