Thrashing Extinction
Incrypt

INCRYPT were formed in 1999 and they are from Melbourne, Australia. The beginnings of the band date back to 1996 under their old name RAVEN MAD. They are a Thrash Metal band and released so far one demo, one EP, and three full-length albums. Album number four "Thrashing Extinction" has a length of almost 39 minutes. It was released via Italian label WormHoleDeath which has a number of Death, Black, and Thrash Metal bands among their current roster.
Despite being active for more than 20 years, Australian thrashers INCRYPT have a small number of releases. Particularly of note is that the debut album "Masterpiece" was released 11 years after their formation in 2010 only. There might be a number of reasons for that, but things have been more stable since the debut album, with regular releases and eventually, INCRYPT now have an established label working with them.
The album starts with an extended intro that slowly increases tension and a dark atmosphere, before it transitions into "Thrashing Extinction" that starts with a classical Thrash Metal riffing at high pace, relentless drumming, and crunching basslines. The harsh vocals are mostly highly pitched, but have a good versatility throughout the track. The extended lead guitar solo maintains the aggression of the track and is very contributing. "Thrashing Extinction" is a sharp and dynamic album opening and the track is the official video release with the YouTube link given below.
"Ultimate Downunder Attack" has a long instrumental start, before it continues with the Thrash Metal attack. The aggressive guitar riffing and the drumming drive the song forward at blistering pace during the verse sections. There are a few tempo breaks towards mid-tempo and there are a couple of cool lead guitar solos and lots of double-bass drumming during the final part of the song. "Pushed Beyond Breaking" has a stomping mid-tempo start, before it transitions into a highly paced affair. The guitar riffing and lead guitar contributions sound a bit hectic at times and there are more complex textures with a lot of twists in rhythm throughout. Compared to "Pushed Beyond Breaking", "Open This Pit" is straightforward with flesh-ripping guitar riffing at frantic speed. The chorus sections are played at a head-banging tempo with powerful and catchy riffing. The lead guitar solo comes with twin guitars where the melodies take off the aggression a bit.
"Extermination" is a hammering with powerful riffing, a grim melodic framework, and plenty of double-bass attacks. There are frequent seamless transitions between high speed verse parts and mid-tempo chorus parts. Highlight of the song is the lead guitar solo. "Point Evolution" is mainly a mid-tempo track, but with plenty of subtle twists in rhythm. The song has a lot of aggression in the guitar riffing and another relentless drumming masterclass is driving the track. Both, "Extermination" and "Point Evolution" are among the album highlights.
After the below par "Stars Of The Southern Land" and "Ghost Hour Crimes", the Thrash Metal hammering continues with "Chaotic Freedom Remains". While the first half of the album was a fast and aggressive Thrash Metal ripping, the second half starting with "Stars Of The Southern Land" puts focus on a more melodic approach. "Chaotic Freedom Remains" gets the right balance between traditional thrash riffing and the melodic components. Some parts, in particular during the chorus parts, have a lot of KREATOR vibes from their melothrash era and the melodies are epic. The album closes with "Declaration", another fast paced banger with plenty of double-bass drumming, powerful guitar riffing, and another excellent lead guitar solo. A good way to finish the album.
"Thrashing Extinction" is a very good Thrash Metal album. It is a mixture of classical Thrash Metal riffing and melodic elements. INCRYPT maintain a high level of aggression for most of the songs and incorporate the melodies very well. Highlight of the album is the drumming which is the backbone in most songs. INCRYPT stick to the well-tried Thrash Metal approach and add their own melodic elements to it. That makes "Thrashing Extinction" standing out from many other Thrash Metal albums. The album is well produced. INCRYPT deliver and "Thrashing Extinction" is one of those albums that should be part of the collection of Thrash Metal fans.
