A special place in the history of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music is reserved for Teutonic warriors such as the members of LYNX, with the will power and the perfect merger of phlegmatic disposition and raw determination that gave birth to "Watcher of the Skies", their first full-length album just a year after releasing their first single when they launched Gray Man, which is also the second track that after the instrumental opener serves as the door to enter a universe of the essence of rock, hard rock and even psychedelic rock with a strong approach to classic Heavy Metal with a vintage touch that communicates a feeling that goes hand in hand with an unforgettable era that will never cease to exist in our hearts and memories, but mostly in the history of the genre.
I could find many features in this work of psychedelic rampaging riffs and thunderous drumrolls, but the one that stands out the most in my humble perspective is the instrumental prowess shown by the four members of LYNX, to mimetize, interiorize and assimilate some of the greatest and most representative interpreters and songwriters in the history of Heavy Metal Music and Hard Rock in order to reproduce and envision their own perspective on what should be a kick ass rock and roll album. After the first third of the record, we cannot longer be strangers to whatever journey this German band has embarked itself in. After a progressive and melodic introduction, the tones of Stoner and Doom metal take a hold hand in hand with elements of Power Metal and some notes and musical constructions that I wouldn't dare to sentence to the prison of labels.
The opening to "Savage Mountain" is a blueprint to how a hard rock song that is too raw to be tagged or labeled into a single genre or subgenre can send your imagination in different directions throughout its duration, I could imagine myself in different places and situations while I was listening to this first full-length album by LYNX, followed by a pack of wild gloves, in the middle of a space ship battle in a galaxy far away or in the midst of battle to survive a terrible onslaught, which is to me one of the mail goals behind discovering new music every chance you got; to be able to visit many places and live multiple lives through the power of imagination and creativity.
