UNCTORIS is a black/death metal band from Italy, who formed in 2003. "Shout Demise," is their full length debut but they have also released two demos, two EPs and a split album. This is one dirty, nasty and evil extreme metal album. From the first track to the last, every second of this beast is uncompromising and unapologetic. The production is dark and raw—-very fitting for the audible assault that is the music on "Shout Demise." This is also a musically challenging and rewarding listen because you know what the band may sound like from second to second. With that being said, it isn't random sounding nor is it full of sporadic landscapes. This is like a storm: a large, cohesive system that will do everything at its disposal to crush you.

Overall, it treads the line between black and death very well—fans of either genre will come away very satisfied. The opening track, "Come Stabilire se ci Sei Ancora," begins with a monstrous scream/growl that kicks off the song. The riffs are insane–both groove and even dissonant mixed with hateful black metal but with the over the top intensity of death metal. The song slows done about halfway through and just gets grim and slimy—unsettling in a big way. The sound of buzzing riffs growing louder signify the beginning of "Cercherò il Passaggio di Ritorno  o Sarò Cancel." The bass has a big, thumping groove that makes the rhythm even more hypnotic. About halfway through groove is so thick and it's suffocating—pure hellfire and sulfur. Afterwards, the buzz saw riffs return but start and stop with the bass overcoming the atmosphere each time.

"Rites Of Grey Isolation," is built around destructive guitars that throw out riff after riff, groove after groove before speeding up to lighting speeds. At this point, with headphones on the song sounds like a hurricane trapped between the ears. It's so awesome. As the onslaught continues, the growls and shrieks become more inhuman. The ever growing intensity is matched by the drums. The moment from 3:40 to 4:30 could probably kill someone who doesn't like the style or is unfamiliar because it is so out there intense that it is basically a blunt force object. Don't let the style of drums in the songs beginning fool you: "Is an Anechoic Chamber," will still straight up wreck you. The band saves the best for last and just piles up the wreckage of riffs. Every time the sound stops for a second, a different riff comes back. These layers kept churning together until around the 2:38 mark and all my senses were nearly lost.

"Shout Demise" is one of the more insane and intense albums I've heard lately. This needs to be experienced.
