The Faceless
Irontree
IRONTREE is a Black/Thrash Metal band formed in Germany in 2013. Without any information in their EPK, I had to turn to The Metal Archives for some bio info. "The Faceless" is their debut album and contains nine tracks. "False Gods" leads off the album. The riffing is fairly trite and the vocals are harmonized, alternating between semi-harsh utterings and clean shouts. I suppose the sound is indeed somewhere between Black Metal and Thrash Metal, but probably closer to the later than the former.
"Thy Will Be Done" is a shorter song, opening with thick bass notes and a chugging guitar rhythm. The vocals are mostly shouted, and the amateur quality of the band comes out a bit more in this song. "Drowning" begins with a lumbering pace and depressive sound. The clean and harsh nature of the vocals keeps shifting between the two, but they are off key to the point that it will bother the listener pretty quickly. "Fall from Grace" features some really cool bass notes and effects, but the pacing is off between the vocals and the instruments. There are also some echoes vocals, but this trickery is not enough to overcome the bad songwriting.
"Crucified" is the longest song on the album. I honestly could have done without a close to eight-minute song from this band. Right away, the intonation of the vocals hits you, followed by the pretty bad musicianship and songwriting. "Dirt" begins with more effects in the bass lines and this song at least sounds more put together than others on the album. But again, the clean vocals are pretty bad when it comes to tone. I think they should get rid of them altogether. "March of the Faceless" closes the album. Aside from some more bass effects the song falls quite flat. No more, please.
Oh boy...what do I say about this album, other than "skip it?" The production is pretty bad as is the musicianship of the band. They didn't really create much of anything here other than a bad smashup of the Black and Thrash Metal genres with pitchy vocals and open-ended guitar notes that bad bands often fall into. There is nothing to see here, trust me.
