Tumba de Carne - Decatexis // Perpetuo Altar album cover

TUMBA DE CARNE is a Deathgrind band from Argentina. "Decatexis // Perpetuo Altar" is the group's first full-length album, released by Lavadome Productions on September 24, 2021.

This band sounds like chaos embodied, but there is a bit of order to the chaos at the same time. Grindcore has always been a difficult genre for me to get into because it is so dissonant all the time. However, what I appreciated about this record was that there were moments when the dissonance actually sounded quite beautiful. A perfect example of this comes towards the end of the first track, "Errar." Ivo Bisceglia and Lucas Villalba play dual guitar parts that, in the upper register, sound very dissonant, but the underlying harmony produces something that is quite haunting. It's difficult to describe, but it elicits a feeling of despair upon listening to it, and it works very well.

The rest of the band is fantastic, too. Nicolas Martinez and Mateo Cassullo are a rhythm duo that, like the many musicians in the Grindcore genre, impress me so much by their sheer ability to keep up with the constant musical changes going on around them. And of course, Matias Fontana has such a brutal voice. I can't understand what he is saying because it's in Spanish, but this is also a Deathgrind album so I wasn't going to be able to understand him anyway.

Other highlights from this album include "Herida," which, for a Deathgrind track, has a lot of sludgy moments in it (and I always have a bit of a soft spot for feedback endings); and "Ulcera," which features a lot of elements of Slam.

I'll be honest, this was a tough album for me to listen to. Like I said, I don't think Grindcore, Deathgrind, Pornogrind and all the other offshoots are necessarily for me, but I can appreciate why people enjoy them. Clearly, TUMBA DE CARNE are very good at what they do, and fans of the style will really dig this album.
