Aphagy
Hranice Abyss
HRANICE ABYSS have released their first EP, "Aphagy", as of August 26th, 2021. This Death Metal/Thrash band hails to us from São Paulo, Brazil. Preceding the release of this EP was the release of two singles, "Violation of the Human Condition" and "Flawless Oblivion". Both of which are included in their EP. Seeking to imply catharsis through music, from searching for revolutions in life. This is an introspective EP written with the core of our beings at heart. Aphagy takes influences from The BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, NECROPHAGIST, SLAYER, LAMB OF GOD, and CATTLE DECAPITATION. While researching Aphagy, I found them listed as several genres. Death Metal, Deathcore, and Thrash. Personally, I hear mostly Thrash/Death. APHAGY produces, directs, and records all their own stuff.
"Voiceless" - Coming in with thrash type guitar riffs and vocals, this is a raging song; artistically rendered. With a melody interwoven that catches your attention and holds tight from beginning to end. The vocals are the powerhouse of this track, as they have a range from the afore mentioned Thrash, to Death seamlessly. "Flawless Oblivion" - I am intrigued by the song titles, and this song does not disappoint with that intrigue. The beat is catchy and intermingles the stringed instruments with drum so artfully. This is a band that mixes their styles very well and goes from one to the other with perfection. At about the 2:45 mark of this song is a great guitar solo as well.
"Violation of Humar" - I hear a little Extreme Metal in the vocal styles in this track. Yet, it isn't all Extreme by far. The production of this album is incredible for a self-released EP. Each piece flows from one to the other with seamless smoothness. Filled with powerful, and oft changing vocals. "Pathfinder" - This is a song about how we all tend to get stuck in a rut sometimes and try to pull away. Some things seem to always pull us back into the dark depths. Yet we must continue to fight. Finding our ultimate path in life in a steady manner. A deep song to match the deep track titles. Set to the raging music of Death/Thrash Metal.
For an EP created wholly by the artists this one has great flow. It does not have that "garage band" sound as many self-released albums do. Aphagy has got it going on and HRANICE ABYSS is evidence of that. Aphagy may be new on the scene, but I have a feeling they are here to stay. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.
