TOMBSTONER a four piece Death Metal band from Staten Island are capitulating off of their successful EP release to drop their debut album "Victims Of Vile Torture". A 10 track album that delivers Death Metal at it's finest. The artwork showing a seemingly horrific scene, perhaps an image of souls in hell being perpetually tortured, it would be in line with the album title.
Opening the record is the titular "Victims Of Vile Torture" and what an introduction to the album! The punchy riffs and aggressive vocals work in perfect unison to deliver a hard hitting and memorable track. The transitions between sections are smooth and sweet, the instrumentals flawless and I cannot get enough. "Sledgehammer" lives up to its name, delivering blow after blow of the heaviest Death Metal, but a serious point to note, there is one of the most utterly disgusting breakdowns I have heard in this track. Superb.
"Breaking Point" continues along with some more aggression, to the point I would liken it to some sort of hybridised style, somewhere between Hardcore and Death Metal. This style continues along into "Grave Dancer" the contrasting low growls and higher screams really complimenting one another and just adding another dimension to the music that takes it up a level. "Nothing's Sacred" and "Frozen In Fear" continue along the more traditional Death Metal blueprint, an energetic pace coupled with layers of aggression that just make for sublime listening. I can't get over just how smooth the music really is, and the quality of recording is absolutely second to none.
"Trepidation" takes all of the best parts of the album and throws them together in a meddled flurry of high quality Death Metal. The strength of an album can normally be seen in its finale. This track certainly delivers, with a real down and dirty riff and rhythm pounding away at the listener, building and building to an inevitable release of pent up energies within the final section. Accompanied with accentual flurries and a string backing that really evolves this album from great to fantastic.
Overall, this is an amazing debut album. For a group that has been around for such a short time to deliver something so polished and finessed, really is testament to the skill, knowledge and prior experience of all involved. Fans of Death Metal, Hardcore and just downright fucking good music be sure to get TOMBSTONER into your library today.
