TERMINALIST a newly formed group coming from the capital city of Copenhagen, Denmark and they came together in 2018. Since their formation they have released an EP called ABANDON ALL LIBERTIES in 2019, followed up by a single release in 2020 which was VOYAGERS. In the early part of this year though, there were two more single releases with RELENTLESS ALTERATION and TERMINAL DISPATCH.

Now they have finally brought to us their debut album, THE GREAT ACCELERATION released through their record label, Indisciplinarian Records as the album was recorded in a studio last year in Copenhagen before being mastered in another studio in Germany. The band has been described as a "four-man harken back to the traditional and technical thrash metal of the late 1980's, bringing it up to date by fusing it with black metal beats, death metal growls and grandiose prog rock concepts".

The album opens with the single they released already which is "Relentless Alteration". In this track, the death metal growls and black metal blast beats are clearly evident here and the progressive rock influence is also heard with thrash elements. The thrash side of this track is symbolized by the drums and guitar acting as the lead of what this band is all about.

Moving swiftly onto the next track, "Terminal Dispatch" which was also the second single release from this album. The middle section of this song also gives the opportunity for the guitar to go wild and reverberate throughout. The drums and guitar do resemble the classic sound of thrash metal bands including ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, VENOM, EXODUS and TESTAMENT to name a few in the golden age of thrash metal in the 1980's.

Up next in this album is "Invention Of The Shipwreck" which happens to be also the longest track lasting almost 11 minutes. The first minute or two we hear the absence of vocals so it's a chance for drums, guitar and bass to shine on in this instrumental part of the song. But the death metal vocals do come back to the fore at the 3 minute mark and the track becomes unstoppable with it's pure power and is certainly compelling to say the least.

The sustained guitar towards the end is remarkable accompanied by astounding drums, specifically the precision and punctuation of the musical aspects is complete hysteria and works very well. "Estranged Reflection" comes with a more melodic and mellow approach where the drum patterns differ from the guitar parts which guides the narrative the whole way through. The spark of what this track is all about is heard at the start and towards the end with guitar embellishing.

The closing track to this album is "Dromocracy" where once more we hear cutting-edge guitar riffs, thundering drums and spine-tingling vocals. The guitar especially takes it to the extreme with drums, but in terms of the production of this track, this is on a whole new level. The creativity, energy and passion these Danish musicians show in their music is top notch and I can only say that this band has to be rewarded for taking a leap into the unknown but it's brilliant. Perhaps we may hear more from this band, I would certainly like to hear more, so hold on tight, because you're in for a treat with this album!
