Corporeal Torment
Anatomia

In their widespan career, ANATOMIA has mastered the deliciously depraved dark tones of doom meets death. Grappling with the dark veil of distorted doom melded with the dankest swathes of death is no mean feat, yet the Japanese duo have effortlessly carved out and perfected nearly 20 years of their uniquely smothering sonic shroud. Takashi Tanaka (NECROPHILE, WORMRIDDEN) and Jun Tonosaki (SPIRAL WHEEL) unleash their latest sadistic offering, their long-awaited fourth album, "Corporeal Torment", a brutally twisted cut of warped wickedness that guarantees to lull, whilst penetrating and piercing in all the right places.
"Dismemberment" unnerves with its claggy unpleasantness of virtual nothingness and its worrisome build-up of crushing noise. A thick fog ensues in distortion, grunted vocals and strapping drums unleash with dominance, stifling and smothering, setting forth an intensely apt opening for "Slime of Putrescense". Presenting as a sludge of torment, "Slime of Putrescense" is an offering of worrisome contrasting quietude that leaves a rabid taste in the mouth. The slow, suffocating pillow to the face momentarily lifts with sound that stifles, but the reek of mephitic vapours remains constant in the dank wallowing of distortion and perturbs throughout, ultimately feeling as if a death mask has been welded to you.
ANATOMIA perfect the unsettled and discomfited in tone, as seen in "Despaired Void", a track of agitating splendour. A drone of Monk-like choir melded with riffs that choke, submerge you under a tsunami of dissonance with pure putridity, leaving you retching and choking on every antagonizing affliction. Whilst final track, "Mortem", delivers adagio that lures, akin to the calling of an odious, unearthly being, reeking of cadaver, yet enticing with its occult charm and harrowing throughout. Distressing deathly, dark vocals intertwine through drum lines that simply murmur amongst riffs designed to asphyxiate with sweltering coldness and aloofness that imbues.
"Corporeal Torment" is certainly a form of punishment and physical oppression, yet offers a perverse sense of gratification and twisted enjoyment; you're sodomised by sound, and aurally defiled from beginning to end, yet it's pleasing and a sound congenial to your cold stony soul. Thank these masters of darkness for such a hideous, but pleasurable, experience. After nearly 20 years on the most insidious side of death and doom, ANATOMIA has yet again proven its genius contortion of the dark, and displayed its voracious appetite for souls, proving that there will only ever be room for one truly despicable deathly doom duo, in the form of the terrifying Tokyo twosome.
