Australian Deathcore band TO THE GRAVE has released what can only be described as one hell of an impressive album. "Epilogue," the follow-up to their 2019 release "Global Warning," has eight new songs, and included their original album, as well. Along with stunning new cover art and a full remaster of each track, this nineteen-track behemoth of an album is heavy af. Australian deathcore at its finest, this album is well worth a listen.

Track one, "Holocaustralia: Global Warning," is an epic song from the first notes. A melodic, cinematic, and keenly dramatic intro gets smashed over the head with a sledgehammer as the song kicks in, and it's spectacular. Quite simply, this is the best deathcore this reviewer has heard in quite a while. The vocal effects are well done and don't distract but instead add to the dark intensity of the track. The drums are phenomenal, and the abrupt ending perfect.

"Hell Hole," the album's fourth track, is a thick, sludge-filled groove track with clever change-ups and low, deep drops. Industrial metal and nu-metal make appearances throughout the song, delivering a multi-spectral uniqueness that makes it a favorite right away for this reviewer. The slow-downs are sick as hell and perfectly placed. This song is phenomenal and adds a new level of excellence to the genre. Track seven, "The Devil In Sheepskin," is another favorite. Shredded and crunchy, this track has it all. There is no question that deathcore is alive and well, especially in Australia.

Track nine, "Skin Like Pigs," is an excellent example of TO THE GRAVE's talent. Furious and thoroughly intoxicating, the band creates a demonic wall of sound that damn near punches the listener in the face in the most welcomed of ways. Low, tuned-down, and dirty, TO THE GRAVE create a deathcore ambiance all their own by adding elements of black and speed metal to the mix.

The twelfth track, "Hear Evil, See Evil (The Haunting of 2624 Dog Trap Road)," opens up to a haunting soundscape that evokes visions of ghostly happenings. The atmosphere is abruptly interrupted by a quick and furious song of only over a minute-thirty that leaves the listener breathless and craving more. Although it's short, it's definitely in the lengthy list of favorite tracks on this unbelievable album.

Track fifteen, "Terrorist Threat," is a thunderous speed track with plenty of doom and horror elements to create a new deathcore fan in just about any metalhead. The guitar work is impeccable, and the drums nothing short of impossible. The guttural vocals work perfectly in tandem with the multi-faceted styles and influences.

Closing out the album is "The Ghost of You," an unexpectedly emotional track that seems to accurately capture the passion and raw intensity that this band has. A definite single, this song begs to be played live, and this reviewer, for one, won't want to miss it. The symphonic and early nineties metal elements are absolutely divine, never coming off dated. This album leaves no holes and is spectacular from first note to the very last. It's a definite must-have for any deathcore aficionado.
