Sulphurous - Encircling Darkness album cover

On February 10, 2021 SULPHUROUS of Copenhagen Denmark released "Encircling Darkness" - a two track EP.  Year 2020 saw the release of a compilation entitled "Encircling Darkness & Abomination Temple". In November 2018 SULPHUROUS released their first full length recording entitled "Dolorous Death Knell". Year 2017 saw the release of promotional EP entitled "Abomination Temple" & another demo EP entitled "Promo XVII".  Year 2016 saw the release of EP Demo XVI & EP Demo XIV. Year 2012 saw the release of EP Demo XII.

Encircling Darkness - The initial opening track begins with high-pitched amplifier feedback while clashing open high hats kick us into a beat by about twenty seconds into the tune;  heavily guitars present a four-measure musical phrase - under which growling vocals are faintly heard.  This progresses until one minute-forty seconds; as the song theme alters through development into the dominant key.  At about two minutes -  a guitar solo is faintly heard, more as a presence that cannot be removed; T delicately ornaments this with a slow ride on the cymbal bell. At about two minutes thirty seconds, the song moves into a third portion-a redeveloped presentation of the original song theme - and; and at three minutes, the drum intensity pauses; feedback resumes (at a lower pitch than that heard as the song began) while the distorted guitar conveys the finalized theme.

Unfathomable Display Of Rotting Creation - the second and final track also begins with the high pitch feedback of a distorted guitar.  Two additional distorted guitar tracks resound-one "double picking a single distorted guitar string; another playing power chords.  At forty five seconds, low pitched ferocious growls are heard;  the daemonic tritone bears an inimitable disdain by the power-crunched guitar distortion-accented by slow tom tom rolls and cymbal crashes - accentuating the underlying rhythm. This pattern further recurs by a fourth beat sixteenth note pattern played on the double bass drum that begins via anacrusis. Distorted rhythm guitars seem subtly enhanced by bouts of wah-neither dirty nor filthy but evil.

SULPHUROUS brings a new combination of subtlety & ferocity to the Death Metal audience-adding to the mystique of wickedness lurking beneath us.
