Psycho Visions - Our Own album cover

PSYCHO VISIONS were formed in 2015 and they are from Poland. They are a Metal band in a wide sense, since their sound is influenced by a variety of genres ranging from melodic Death Metal, progressive Metal, and Thrash Metal. Originally, they started as a 5-piece band until the original vocalist left the band. So far they have released one EP and, prior to the new album, the full-length album "Inflect" back in 2018. "Our Own" is an independent release and has a length of approximately 32 minutes.

"Our Own" confirms PSYCHO VISIONS idea of creating Metal from a wide range of genres and subgenres. This results in songs that are very diverse regarding sound and especially song structures. Good examples for this can be found everywhere on the album, however, let us start with "Mirrors", a track that starts with a heavy and catchy guitar riff and rhythm which sets the basis for the song but soon after it transitions into a harmonic lead guitar play. The vocals are highly variable throughout ranging from clean vocals to screams. "Mirrors" has traditional Metal, melodic Death Metal, and also Thrash Metal elements in it, the rhythm changes throughout which makes it very hard to listen to. "Two Sides" has a more melodic side driven by the lead guitar sequences and solos.

PSYCHO VISIONS play most of their songs in mid-tempo, but again there are variations throughout, often there are slower parts such as in "Everywhere Yet Nowhere" and there are also a few highly paced eruptions such as in "Two Sides". The melodic parts in "Everywhere Yet Nowhere" at the beginning have a few IRON MAIDEN vibes. Again, the song structure in this song is fairly complex with a lot of changes in rhythm. "Everywhere Yet Nowhere" was released as video and the YouTube link is given below.

There are also a couple of songs with less complexity in structure such as "Hectic Gallop" and to some extent "Inertia". "Inertia" has a thrashy start with heavy and fast guitar rhythms, double-bass drums, and aggressive vocals before it transitions into a slower and more melodic part. There are several breaks throughout the song with a few distortions, but I would think, "Inertia" is the heaviest track on "Our Own". "Hectic Gallop" is the only song on "Our Own" which maintains its nice head-banging mid-tempo rhythm for the whole duration.

PSYCHO VISIONS have a very own approach to Metal. Their new album "Our Own" establishes their unique sound. The album is mainly driven by its complex and distorted song structures, as well as the combination of elements from almost every Metal subgenre. PSYCHO VISIONS are very good in compiling all those elements together and to fit this into coherent songs which is evidence for an excellent songwriting. "Our Own" is definitely not a mainstream album and it will not be everyone's cup of tea. The album is very well produced. With "Our Own", PSYCHO VISIONS have further established their ideas of Metal and people who dig into it will love it.
