RICKY WARWICK is releasing his fifth solo album in 2021, titled "When Life Was Hard and Fast". He is a Northern Irish Musician and had been the lead singer in THIN LIZZY and BLACK STAR RIDERS. "When Life Was Hard and Fast" opens the album. The guitar and drums on this track are upbeat and left me with a feeling of nostalgia. The song is about how life changes and how some faces in pictures wont last forever. There is a solo played on the guitar around the two-minute mark. RICKY WARWICK's vocals are well done.
"You Don't Love Me" opens with a high guitar whine, it then has clear guitar riffs and vocals. This song is exciting but also the lyrics are quite sad and realizing as the lyrics repeat "you don't love me anymore". There is a good beat on drums. "I'd Rather be Hit" opens on a nice melody played on the guitar that is accompanied by a steady beat on the drums and vocals. It is possibly an anti-love song. The track "Never Corner A Rat" has a punk sound to it. It has very hard drums, distortion on vocals and chaotic and energetic guitar riffs. The vocals are more Rock 'N Roll on this track showing the range in RICKY WARWICKS voice.
"Time Don't Seem To Matter" is played on acoustic guitar featuring vocals from RICKY'S daughter PEPPER. It is a beautiful personal song about the relationship with his daughter. It was a personal favorite as how emotional it was to get to listen in on their relationship. The contrast of RICKY's voice and how sweet and pure his daughter's voice is a great addition. There's use of violins that creates a beautiful ambience in the background. It has a slow electric guitar playing the original melody over the acoustic guitar. You can feel the love through the lyrics, and you can feel the reassurance of a father always loving his daughter.
"Fighting Heart" is full of youth and a true rock n roll sound from the guitar riffs. The staccato on the guitar builds us up to the chorus that is very catchy and easy to sing along to. The upbeat drums and guitar riffs make this song so easy and fun to listen to. "I Don't Feel At Home" reminded me a bit of ASLAN with the acoustic guitars being accompanied by the electric and the crash on the drums keeps a steady beat. It is full of emotion "I don't want to live in this world anymore, I don't feel like home" expresses the pain meant from this song.
"Still Alive" is a more uplifting song than the previous one. It starts with a whine of a guitar. There is a funky bass line, and the drums are impressive. "Clown If Misery" is an intentionally grainy sounding song played on an acoustic guitar. It is very raw, and the vocals are almost spoken. "You're My Rock 'n Roll" starts with the ring of a phone call and an exchange between two people and straight into beating drums and pure Rock 'N Roll. This album "When Life was Hard and Fast" is so well done, there is so much diversity between these songs. It is full of rock ballads.
