BLACK MASS PERVERTOR is a band that's been celebrated for its unique style ever since the release of 2018's "Life Beyond These Walls of Flesh." These black metal Finnish punks have unleashed a new record this month, aptly titled "Sodomiittien Seura." It's hard not to notice crust punk's influence and the grandiose hail to stenchcore on this album, which is as bold as it is ruthless.

BLACK MASS PERVERTOR toggles between the first and second wave eras of black metal and modernizes them with carefully placed components of punk and thrash metal. There's no doubt, this album is as vicious as it is heavy. Hammering drums, dirty guitars, and wickedly, impassioned vocals rip through a compelling lyrical conundrum. This is most aptly seen on the album's third track, "Silent Observer."

"Sodomiittien Seura" is the album's title track. It proves that even a band this intense can accommodate a wide range of musical stylings in their repertoire. Arranging harmonious musical unions alongside torturous intensity, the track is well laid out. An unrelenting providence of energy that never deviates from the album's foundational dark intentions.

The seventh and most sinister track on "Sodomiittien Seura" is a favorite for this reviewer. A song appropriately titled, "Towards the Higher Plane of Existence." Stretching themselves musically, BLACK MASS PERVERTOR explores a more grandiose approach. Filled with blast beats, the track summons a crude loathing and longing for something raw, authentic, and honest. It's difficult not to notice the nuances of sludgy, groove metal with a little drone woven throughout, as well.

"Sodomiittien Seura" gets right to the point and but doesn't overstate itself or wear out its welcome. In fact, it's one to put on repeat. It's simply a solid album from a great example of unruly punk-influenced black metalists who pay homage to their convictions and musical roots.
