Deadwolff
Deadwolff
What we have here is DEADWOLFF, and this is their first EP/Demo. Sounding like some Detroit Garage Punk Band, this trio with an unnamed drummer hail from Toronto Canada. These guys are a raw as fresh gravel rash, with a punky swagger and the sound of guys playing from the balls, not polished, no bullshit, straight ahead Rock and Roll, played loud and hard.
It is a classic no frills power trio sound, no one has anywhere to hide, so play it like ya stole it! As epitomized by "Walking On Nails". Thomas Wolffe lays down a Bassline to ump around to while Bobby Deuce thrashes his guitar into submission, while the drummer goes crazy on the kit. "Double Up" cranks up the sleazy punk 'tude. Again built on Thomas' beefy bass that tickles the undercarriage and while he snarls the vocals. The guitar wails in heat while the drummer pounds out the beat. It's nasty in the best way.
These guys sound like the bastard child of THE STOOGIES, MC5 and THE NEW YORK DOLLS, and none of them are owning up to be the father! "Pedal To The Metal" sound like the two songs that went before, but you know that is what you expect from this type of punky rough Rock an Roll. You want songs about global pandemics, alien civilizations or the "human" condition, bugger off and listen to something else this is about hanging out with your mates, drinking beer, making noise, which "Wanted Man" illustrates well. Touches the RAMONES and MOTORHEAD, what is not to like! A Garage Punk version of the Gingerbread Man's song. Listen to the lyrics, you'll know what I mean.
Which brings us to the last track, "Six To Midnight". There isn't a whole lot to add that I've not yet said. But it is a cool as a heck. There is some MC5 going on, a bit of The STROKES, even a bit of The WHITE STRIPES in its stripped back, full throttle delivery.
This is really what you see is what you get, no frills, no glitz or glam, jut wham!, bam! thank you Ma'am, music thrashed out on three instruments, a singer, barely keeping it in tune, but no one cares, this music isn't about precision, it just has to sound good. I mean how do you mark this for production? There is hardly any on show. Originality? Nope none. Memorability? These are throw away, bubblegum songs, played for fun. Songwriting? Really! BUT what you have is good time, party time, throwing back with your mates, listening while you're getting you hands dirty stripping your bike, take your brain out and rock music. It is as fun as fuck, so while none of our metrics count or work in this case, the overall feeling in your nether regions, and what it makes you feel in the moment you are listening to it is a 10, so they are all 10's
