SIGNAL RED has come out with an amazing album that continues off of the greatness of their debut album. "Alien Nation" is, in my personal opinion, a melodic masterpiece that pulls at the genre in a new way that I have only heard through them. The guitar, drums, and vocals are all drawn together in such a way that you'll have to experience it to even be able to begin to comprehend what I mean, that is, unless you were already a fan of SIGNAL RED. This album is opened up with the song "Wide Awake In Dreamland", which draws you in with a melodic keyboard, then breaks out into some super chill guitar melodies with soothing vocals pouring into your eardrums. This opening track lays down a great starting point, and if you continue listening, the journey is far from over.
The next part of this masterpiece I will touch on is "Insomnia", which, being someone who has struggled with this certain ailment in real life, I was immediately drawn to the song just because of the title. The sounds of this song are soothing all the way to the core, while depicting a deeper story that isn't soothing in its roots. "Wishing on stars and begging for sleep, creatures of the night out and about"; SIGNAL RED really put out a song to engulf yourself in. If you want to get lost in a story of the night, close your eyes and indulge in the sounds of "Insomnia".
After hopefully not quite being pulled away into dreamland by the previous sounds, "Dance Macabre" comes blaring through your speakers next. This faster paced addition to the album sits nicely in the composition of listening to an album from start to finish. Building off the storyline of the previous song, it really puts an image of the depths that insomnia can draw out, the horrors that can come during sleepless nights. It's an emotionally packed song that can help you realize there are many more people that may deal with similar things that you deal with than you originally thought.
There are many great songs on this album, with my favorite personally being "Rocket Fuel". The introduction into this song is powerful, followed by vocals and a core of music that are just as powerful. If you are going to give this album a listen, you will definitely not be disappointed! This is melodic at its core, and the message and thought that have gone into this album are immense. SIGNAL RED really laid down an album worth the listening time and more!
