WINDCHIMES is a Blackened Death Metal/Metalcore band from Butler, Pennsylvania, USA. From their Facebook page, they describe their music as "A loved one has passed, another soul to drift the earth. Gifted a memorial charm of metallic pipes, strung up by memories and sorrow. Hearing the faint whispers of the wind. Reminding you of the once flourishing life. Now is but a soft ember." The album contains six tracks.

"Intro Windy" opens the album. It pulses with some noise and spoken words...talking about how the subject can still hear a certain person's voice when the wind chimes sound outside...and he says "in the end, we all die alone." From there, the music is a mix of guttural Death Metal and Deathcore, with Djent tones at times. It segues into "Enervation," which also opens with brief spoken word. The music is dark and powerful, and the vocals are part guttural and part Black Metal shrieks. The sound is closer to Deathcore than anything else for me, but that is neither here nor there.

"Succmb" is close to six minutes in length. Opening with a dark atmosphere and again more spoken words, clean guitars carry the track forward at first. From there, it sounds more like Black Metal to me, with some Death Metal elements mixed in. The way they ride the fence here between the two styles is interesting. "Withering" is a three-minute track that also opens with quick spoken word. From there, a mid-tempo guitar riff moves it along. The harsh vocals are Core at first, but turn Black soon after. "Glassface" begins with more spoken words and then solemn clean guitar notes. The vocals are vile screams at first, then morph into a more Deathcore sound. Clean vocals return, sad and depressing. Some eerie lead guitar notes come into play as they dial up the intensity.

"Sunken" closes the album...and it's a beast, at over eight-minutes in length. Odd and dissonant tones lead to the steady strum of clean guitars, with more of those vile screams. It takes a brief pause from the madness with more clean guitars, but the vocals keep up with their intensity. Towards the end it slows to a haunting grind. The entire world is collapsing around you. Distortion and feedback abound. The song comes full circle with the clean guitars, clean vocals and wind chimes at the end. If the mission of the album was to lead you to the lowest and scariest moments in your life, they have succeeded wholeheartedly. They combine the raw power of Black Metal both angry and depressing tones with a variety of different vocal styles and even some Deathcore elements, and this crushing weight consumes you and pushes you to your breaking point.
