MOSKOWA formed in France in 2016, and actually released this album independently in 2017. Since then, they have signed with a major label, who are in effect re-releasing the eight track album titled "The Man of the Three Island." Labeled as Progressive Death Metal, the album is supposed to be a concept album about the history of France. "A New Era" leads off the album. Drums roll in, and the riff is low and slow, kind of like BLACK SABBATH. The vocals are guttural and they stay on the open chord pretty much throughout the song. "Beyond Pratzen" is another song that overly relies on the open E chord too much, though it does venture out just a bit. The riff begins to climb a bit but then it's back to the open chord. The vocals are so guttural that's it's almost as if you are listening to old school Death Metal.

"Russia's Eyes" features more of that grinding low riffage combined with deep vocals where it sounds like he is straining a bit to get them out. They remain consistent, if nothing else, but the music really doesn't take you anywhere. "Battle in the Cold" opens with some brief drum fills, then it's back to those open notes again. This time, there is a brief ambient passage close to the half-way mark that makes nice use of some Doomy qualities in the music. "A Morbid Frozty Return" is more of the same...at least, until about over a minute in, where the riff changes and brings a little more life to the table. But, the band isn't really willing or able to take many risks here.

"Eye Blood of Defeat" is unfortunately more of the same...a largely lifeless song that doesn't contribute much to the album. This is some of the simplest riffing that I have heard in a while. "Look Back" is the longest song on the album, at just over six minutes in length. Clean guitar give way to a faster moving song, but soon enough, it's right back to those open notes again. There is what you might call a chorus at one point but it's hard to tell. "The Legacy" closes the album...a quick three-minutes of more open chords and really bad vocals. In my opinion, this album should have stayed in the box where it came from. The re-release didn't do much for anyone, and it is so unilateral that it's hard to look past. Do yourself a favor, and bury this back into the earth.
