In Malice's Wake - The Blindness of Faith album cover

"The Blindness of Faith" is exactly the high-caliber, style-rich production which the savvy Australian or greater global metalhead would expect from their countrymen in IN MALICE'S WAKE. This beast starts off with a quick punch to the cranium and refuses to back down until–ten tracks later– you are left bloodied and broken. Audio clues foretell of band influences to the discerning listener, providing a few "Easter egg" moments. No mercy shall be found from front to back, so if punishment is your thing, then get ready for more than you can handle!

The tolling of the bell in the background provides the optimal spook factor just before the sheer destruction sets in. Blasting riffs pound over the place inside your skull and whether up-tempo or not, these riffs simply dominate the ear space. There are no shortage of wind milling opportunities either, because the percussion of Mark's drumming overpowers your mind and sends the energy through you. Shaun's vocals are a force to be reckoned with as well, seeing as how the unbound aggression morphs the vocalist from mere mortal to possessing the strength of titans.

One thing that might strike the casual Thrash Metal enthusiast is just how dark the guitarwork sounds. Distorted minor chords increase the haunt factor by several fold, and combined with a choir of voices in the distant background at various points, the album takes on this entirely evil persona, and it is all in the same line of thought for some of the religious motifs in the song titles. The terror-inducing sense of panic provided by some of the more frenetic riffs keep the listener on one's toes.

The last thing to mention is just how well the songs flow from one to the next. None seem out of place whatsoever and each demands respect or makes known the listener shall face the consequences. Dread is too weak of a word for the emotive response garnered throughout "The Blindness of Faith" and such words to accurately describe it are truly scarce! IN MALICE'S WAKE make no apologies and their thunderous latest release showcases how talented are our friends from Down Under!
