STARLESS DOMAIN is a "Deep Field" Black Metal band, that deals with matters of outer space. "ALMA" contains one epic track, clocking in at over forty minutes in length. Eerie tones open the album, like you awoke somewhere in deep space. As you start to get your bearings, you realize you are alone, in an endless sea of black. Earth is billions of miles away, and you have no idea where you are. Cold. Deep cold is all you feel. Drums and harrowing sounding guitars come in around the two-minute mark, slow and sterile. The come the agonizing screams, as you realize your fate might be sealed.

A heaviness builds in the background. It begins a slow build of intensity, with other instruments joining in. The screams are deafening. Now, at twelve minutes in, the atmospheric elements take center stage, creating a landscape of frozen fear, endless cold, and the blackness of infinity. The slow build of intensity is almost too much to bear. At fifteen minutes in, the sound drops, to just the steady pulse of bass guitar notes, and some background keys. It picks back up in sound around the eighteen-minute mark, and you can feel the walls closing in around you.

You try to move, to swim, to where? There is nothing for millions of miles. The faint star lights you see seem much closer than they actually are. It feels like days, even weeks have passed, but it's only been a few hours. Madness consumes your every thought, because you know deep inside that there is no escaping this cruel fate. You wonder, just for a fleeting moment, could this just be a dream? As the intensity increases, it sure doesn't feel much like a dream. You can suddenly feel your heart beating, your mind racing, goosebumps on the back of your neck. Every nerve is alive. Haunting vocal chants are added at around the thirty-eight-minute mark. Your life is about to end.

At forty minutes in, the music drops to just those eerie chants and some keys. You start to feel more calm, and relaxed. Your heart rate slows, and you close your eyes and fall into a deep sleep. When you awake, you are back in your bed, and realize this may indeed have just been some terrible, forty-minute nightmare. But, until your finals days on earth, you are always looking over your shoulder, and it haunts you for the rest of your life.
