Battalions - Pure Humber Sludge album cover

Four moodge wrecking crew from Kingston upon Hull, Olde Blighty band BATALLIONS (2009) are campaigning crisp remasters of their first two pop-discs to celebrate the band's 10th anniversary. The pointy end of the stick is "Pure Humber Sludge", totaling 15 sludgy warbles of post modern rawk in the veins of WEEDEATER, CONVERGE and ENTOMBED. Tracks 1 - 8 were originally released as "Nothing To Lose" on January 21st in 2016 while tracks 9 - 15 were originally released as "Moonburn" on August 5th, 2017. Both releases were recorded at Skyhammer Studio by the golden-ooko veck Chris Fielding who revisited these releases and remastered them at Ty Mawr Studio in May, 2020 and what a fine job he did me droogies. Artwork was created by Daggersforteeth. I don't know about y'all, but when I do humber, I kopat of the pure sludge variety and this is the sladky sludgy stuff.

The band puts on their metal knickers and rawks out on 'Hoods Up Knives Out' riffing JUDAS PRIEST in slow downer mode. Philkinson throws in creeching vocals that zvook like the Daily Mail gazetta being torn in half - a right proper ending. 'You Have Nothing to Lose But Your Sons and Your Souls' - holy wars batman, what a title - has a cool back-stepping waltz about mid-point in the song that shows that BATALLIONS can vareet. 'Whiskey and Wine' is a shweet malenky tune, a bangers and mash blooze thumper that rains riffs then leaves you hung up wet with no wringer compared with 'Bog Faced Roy', a top 40 tolchock.

Grahzny slovos eemya 'Shitstorm Troopers' drops, delivers a swift kick to the yarbles then fades out on a fagged mosh. 'Skinjob' brings the bolshy zvook and scraping snowplow-on-asphalt goloss. There ain't much else here but it do groove - sloochat ¡! 'Lotion Basket' is a run-on from the previous warbles. Too baddiwad i canna unastand a bloody slovo. Nice guitar refrain riff by Soggy Pete.

'Moonburn' boogies lunar woogies and while not yielding a note towards dynamics has some slick guitar parts and I doth pronounce this My Favourite Warble ... Betrayal is what I do .... Can't help myself ... Philkinson's vocals tolchock like an expresso rapido in the tube leaning into full brakes on the radosty jammiwam 'Betrayal and Delusion'. Cheena warble 'Amazonian Woman' is bloozy-groove privodeet metal shuffle.

"Pure Humber Sludge" never leaves the sammy power blooze and groove metal to boomaboom effect, a razrez raskazz they is. The production is horrorshow and every sludge note gets slooshied in all its glory. Repeated tasses of firegold Moloko Plus and slooshy "Pure Humber Sludge" at the corner pub will warm your tick-tocker and make raz stand still. Well well well. What makes, bratty? What gives, this fine bright middle of the nochy?" Dani Bandoliers Spotify list of sloosh bandas ...
