It's amazing how cold such a definitive factor can be to writing good music. I have another band from Russia in my hands and we are going even further in the great land; this time we are going to Siberia, a no nonsense place with no nonsense people and climate that makes cold in other countries look like summer.
DEFECT DESIGNER started playing Death Metal in 2005 but knew each other longer than that, after a promo in 2007 entitled W. In 2008 they recorded Wax which is also their first full length album. The promo sheet describes their music as progressive extreme Death Metal, and that is exactly what they play with a little emphasis to the progressive part. DEFECT DESIGNER recorded a very powerful first album, influenced by monstrous bands such as EDGE OF INSANITY, CARCASS and BOLT THROWER and have created a massive album that follows the path of those legendary bands. Words are not written lightly, as DEFECT DESIGNER have put the fact that they know each other to perfect use and WAX could be considered one of their many albums if one does not know that this band is a brand new in the Metal scene.
Dmitry has a unique voice, a voice that allows him to create any vocal sound he desires and to achieve a great vocal range. Most of the album is in mid tempo and deeper growls, but when the need arises he can raise without ado his voice to high pitches and screams that can freeze your blood. He never deviates from the flow of the song and he does not need to rely to extremities to show off his vocal abilities. You have a clear and perfect grasp of his ability throughout the whole album.
Guitars play a very important part in the CD; they do all the 'heavy lifting' together through their combined efforts and they create the progressive and technical part of the album, a part that is well played; they have managed to do something very difficult, they play for each song so different that it could be a different band, now if that is not progressive then what is? The technical part is insane as written above, is it the long time they have spend together? Is it that they are prodigies? Is it the production? Anyway, these people know how to play and how to be amazing.
The drums - like the universal force that binds planets together - binds all in a well crafted assembly, monolithic, rapid and overwhelming. Victor could easily be in the Heavy Metal rookies of the year.
