MAYA MOUNTAINS is a band that mixes Doom and Stone Metal with a lot of psychedelic influences, creating a very different ambiance. They have released their newest album "Era" and that is what we are going to talk about.
The opening song from the album is "Enrique Dominguez" and I liked how it started with a zither in a progressive way, creating place for the drums, guitars, and bass. The instrumental reminded me of BLACK SABBATH and they sound cool. The vocals are good, but the effect on the voice made it a little bit boring to me.
"In The Shadow" starts really slow with some nice bass lines, drum beat and guitar riffs that will definitely make you travel inside your mind. The vocals here are different, they sounded much better without the effects. "San Saguaro" starts in a more directly way than the previous couple of songs, it has a Heavier riff and the singer reminded me of Zakk Wylde.
"Dead City" starts with a cool guitar riff followed by a simple but very nice drum and bass sound. Once again, the vocals sound different and I liked to hear how the vocalist can sing in different ways and tones. Pretty cool song. "Vibromatic" starts with nice guitar noise that turns into a cool and heavy groove riff followed by cool drumming. I don't like the vocals here... too much effects made it sounds weird.
"Raul" is one of the coolest songs from the whole album and very different from all the others since its an instrumental song with a lot of psychedelic ambiances. "UFO" starts with a nice radio speech and some fast bass lines followed by one of the best guitar riffs from the whole album and nice drumming as well. The vocals here are pretty cool and perfectly fits the song.
"Baumgartner" and "Extremely High" are both nice songs with cool groove elements and the psychedelic ambiance as well.
"El Toro" is the last song from the album and it starts out with a nice ambiance created by the bass, guitars, and drums. There is something really cool about that sound and I enjoyed it. Its also their longest song on the album and there are a couple of different elements that I recommend you to check listening to this song.
