Wolftooth
Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: WOLFTOOTH; signed via Ripple Music, hailing from the United States of America - performing Heavy/Doom Metal, on their 2nd sophomore album entitled: "Valhalla" (released May 22nd, 2020). Since formation in 2017; the quartet in question have a Single entitled: "Firebreather" (released March 13th, 2020), and 2 Full-Length albums with the first being: "Wolftooth", and the second of which I am introduced to entitled: "Valhalla". 10 tracks ranging at around 42:40; WOLFTOOTH arranges an intricately designed formula of hard-hitting Heavy/Power Metal amalgamations. "The Lamentation Of Frigg" begins the record; with an acoustic hymn, reminiscent to that of the rich landscape nurtured in the subdued vibe found in the The Lord Of The Rings. Setting this manifestation with sombre tranquility; juxtaposing with penny whistling that makes for an atmospheric but ethereal aesthetic...using ones imagination forming the outlandish environment of the Viking land - Valhalla...in this short yet elegantly exquisite beginning.
Until "The Posession" uniforms this outrè panache of riveting instrumentation; blistering eardrums into a barraged frenzy of uniquely versatile vehemence, wondering with groovy executions & flamboyantly complex harmonies element a borderline foundation of punchy jumpiness with a blistering crunch of boisterous calamities that skyrocket with trailblazing finesse. Consisting of CHRIS SULLIVAN on guitars/vocals; the frontman excels at a chunky implemenation of dextrously dynamic quirkiness, vibrantly showcasing rapidly swift substance with nimble snappiness. Organically providing seamlessly sonic rhythms which rumble with solidly meaty riffs while the vocals yells out this obvious array displaying high-pitched pipes that captivate a contrasting characteristic to that of OZZY OSBOURNE in his own style of profusely robust, yet signature trademark singing... merging GRAND MAGUS maelstroms with the catchy distribution here primitively supplies rawly rough ramifications, relentlessly persevering with old-school melodies that synergetically surge with rip-roaring chugs & galloping frolicks embellish on experiment hooks that compile gripping fretworks with majestically mesmerizing anthems especially in the thudding technicalities of "Firebreather". Juxtaposing clean, high-pitched vocal arrangements in which wails with a chilling presense to it.
Fuelling a healthy dose of quintessential virtuosity with potently bombastic adrenaline; amplified into a triggering momentum that oozes out of sophisticated ambition, armed to the brim - crafting classic rock psychedelia with heavy as hell weightiness. Tightened bass audibility from Terry McDaniel injects an infectiously-driven yet venomous thump of thrilling static, shredding with progressive tendencies while transistioning with tonal musical spectrums. The titular track rambunctiously piledrives with this not so spontaneous combustion, but this razor-sharp firepower in which wails with reverberating pandemonium & ruthlessly steely precision as battering drummer Johnny Harrod hammers his set with pummelling skill. Resulting with this stomping sublimity that revolves around a huge flair of wickedly spellbinding variety, polishing volatile yet fluid expertise that attributes an enriching performance that systematically pounds with mighty persistence.
While elsewhere; the stampeding stallion "Fear For Eternity" reminisces with this fuzzy amount of distortion, concrete grittiness & distinctively distinguished grandures that romps up with this traditional tempest of neck-breaking choruses & some broad boundaries of influeces from BARONESS with those trippy strums from RED FANG. "Scylla & Charybdis" deftly evolves with this slick stoner rock approach; forging a hastily sweeping scatter of razor-sharp yet tribal jazziness slabbing this refreshing flexibility, fundamentally lacerating killer but immersive guitar intensities from Jeff Cole...detailing consistently but diligently salubrious musicalities that patterns this grinding dimension of trancing hybrids in which wonders with this prodegious yet ritualistic vibe of moody doominess impressiving demonstrating a drony culmination of slaying oscillations and chiselling yet thunderous triumphs. "Molon Labe" starts off with an anthemic chord, until this brusing beefiness of surreal but hypnotic ballad-esquire rift that may resonant to those older bands like BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN etc...inventively harnessing WOLFTOOTH's modernized tremble which revs up those pulsating overarchs of scorching yet wildly rushing stabilities. "Crying Of The Wolves" meticulously articulates booming fabrications; examining constructive homages that zestfully emulates a host of prevalent occurrences that uses their own methodology, while sprinkling on top their own uniquely versatole vehemence...the penultimate track: "The Coven" is another flow that spiritually praises bluesy effects in which proficiently impacts a fluidly polished tone of mellifluously euphonic chunkiness.
Overall concluding "Valhalla" with the finale epic: "Juneau"; additionally establishing a grandiose of strong songwriting musicianship, converging a bunch constructively memorable tempos & soundscape productions...I am compelled to say that WOLFTOOTH certainly are an enjoyably entertaining discovery, awarding me with remarkable replay value & an impressively inventive essense of splendidly stunning representations of Heavy/Doom Metal developments. Bottom line; the founding Godfathers of the adventurous world of the Metal sprectrum passing on means that there is a slot to pass over the gauntlet to a younger generation of the metal flag, WOLFTOOTH definitely prove themselves worthy to carry the torch if they are willing to - also proving that Rock/Metal is not dead. Definitely a band worth examining, an exemplary driving force of hard-working Metal that deserves a listen or three. Check it out!
