Cerebus - Hades' Cript album cover

It is a rare album that captures my attention from its first couple notes so deeply. This is one of those such albums, "Hades Crypt", by Greek band, CERBERUS, a concept album was released on April 3, 2020. This album was written conceptually on Greek mythology, a poetic venture through and through. After touring locals' clubs and venues, performing metal covers, CERBERUS decided to focus on their own Symphonic Melodic stuff. Thus, their debut album, "Hades Crypt", was born. This is an album that reminds you that metal has a very soft side, contrary to popular belief that metal is just loud noise. CERBERUS was formed in November of 2016, and in July of 2019 had the opportunity to perform at Schoolwave Festival; one of the most popular festivals in Greece.

"Crimson Sky" - Soft notes usher in a trance like wave of delicate sound, and fantastical synthesis. Like falling in and out of a daydream, each poignant note shines with opalescent light. This song wraps you in all its instrumental glory. "Unforeseen Dawn" - Such an aching depth of melody and sung with talented vocals. Thought provoking lyrics, sung in a mix of clean and harsher vocals, hit home and are easily relatable. I really like the Vocalist, Alex Korovesis, he has quite a variety of range and talent thereof. It is hard to say whether the music or the vocals stand out more to be honest. Both add so much to the whole production. "Scars of Seclusion" - The piano accompanies the guitar like salt to pepper. Symphonic to the core, this album is truly incredible. At about the three-quarter mark there is some sensationally played guitar.

"Cerberus" - Sounding like a battle cry, this is a faster song than the others. Showcasing those talented vocals that I mentioned earlier. Alex has a very good voice, from the higher to lower notes. Particularly the smooth depth of the deeper end of his voice. This song also includes some heavy drum work by Bill Nanos. "Elysium" - Opens with almost creepy chanting, this is an abrupt change from the softer set mood earlier on in the album. The vocals here, you wouldn't believe was the same as the softer sung portions in earlier parts of this album. I would say this is closing with a bang. Wise words on this existential plain.

"Hades Crypt" is a well put together album full of talent. CERBERUS, while new to the scene, managed to put together a decent piece. The symphonic nature of this album appeases my love of Symphonic Metal, yet the harder sides.... Where Alex's voice hits harder, gives that Heavy Metal feel. For a first album I would say I am very impressed, and will delight in hearing what comes from CERBERUS next time around.
