Rekuiem - Time Will Tell (Reissue) album cover

REKUIEM is a 4-Piece Traditional Heavy Metal band from Wolverhampton, England. This is a reissue of their first full-length album that came out back in 2006. They were known as REQUIEM from 1979 to 1984 and they came back in 2001 as REKUIEM with a new singer in the name of Paul Parry, he was the singer of New Wave of British Heavy Metal Band TREDEGAR.

The New Wave of British Heavy Metal was a nationwide movement in the late 70's but came to prominence in the early 1980's and dominated the scene for a short while. As much as it was an underground phenomenon that came to light after the Punk scene, it was largely devoted to small venues in industrial towns throughout the United Kingdom. When it came to prominence, they obviously were at the forefront and many bands really grasp the opportunity like IRON MAIDEN (though we can say that the first two albums were more Punk oriented with Paul Dianno at the helm), JUDAS PRIEST, ANGEL WITCH, SAXON, DIAMOND HEAD amongst countless others. A number of other bands emerged in the genre trying to generate a buzz and make their place in the genre. Sometimes a number of bands just fell out of sight and REKUIEM was one of these bands.

They still have that raw sound of the older bands and very loyal to the genre. They share the origins of the elder statesmen of Heavy Metal like BLACK SABBATH and they mix the influences of the past with everything that was going on at that time. The sound may not be original and very similar to anything that was on the forefront of the genre. It's not going to reinvent the wheel and they were lost in the shuffle in the successful revival of the British hard Rock and Metal scene. Some bands were able to weather the storm and continue but they weren't able to grasp the opportunity like so many bands. It was rough to be able to have that constant success and stay afloat amongst like thousands of bands that came out at the same time. Their sound it very similar to what was back then and this album is about 20 years old as of right now. There is sub standard musicianship and a very capable unknown singer but it just gets a bit boring except maybe that BLACK SABBATH cover that really stands out. All the rest is pretty much interchangeable and not really remarkable. It could have been released back in the day but it's not going to establish them in the limelight because it's overdone. They use every cliché in the books and it's just repetitive nonetheless. Critical acclaim and commercial success of the other bands of the genre hurt those little bands and they were never able3 to overcome the odds and pretty much imitated the other NWOBHM bands and REKUIEM is one of them unfortunately.
