Subtype Zero - Ceremonious Extinction album cover

One of the joys of listening to Metal music is discovering a new band who excites your senses, and make you want to find out more about them, and not being able to find anything beyond the surface, this tells us there is still an underground movement out there that isn't all about fame and likes, profile and hits on social media. It's about finding the music and digging it enough to find more music from the band, which then leads you to seeing if you can see them live in your area (OK not at the moment, but this ain't normal), trying to find out more, and the only way to do this is by finding other like minded members of the underground and interacting, learning and appreciating these rare gems.  This is exactly what it used to be like before the inter-web, it's how we all discovered new bands.

So it is satisfying to discover SUBTYPE ZERO, hear there music for the first time on this their new EP "Ceremonious Extinction", and very little else.  I know they are out of Ashtabula Ohio, and were formed in either 2014 or 2018, depending on what you read. They have issues a few EP's, a full length album, a joint album and a live set before this new music Been through a few different musicians, and they do have a social media presence and indicated elsewhere but only to a certain level.

Getting down to the important stuff.  Their sound on this collection of 4 songs is super fast, very aggressive, no nonsense old school Thrash.  The analogy between their sound and earlier SLAYER is impossible to avoid, the urgency and aggression punch you in the face with a studded glove, you are gonna loose some teeth, maybe an eye, in the same way "Reign In Blood" did in 86.

I'm not going to over analyse these four songs, you know hat you are going to get.  A relentless on-point rhythm section, who sound like an industrial nail-gun pounding through your head.  The guitar(s) hammering home their nasty, angry wailing, howling wall of noise. And a stream of vitriolic anger driven menacing vocals which will make your ears bleed played at the pre-requisite  volume LOUD.  You will want to be in the center of the mosh-pit, wailing and flailing with your fellow metal-heads, no one will escape unhurt.

So the song titles are exactly the sort of hokey metalized nonsense you would expect them to be, it is all part of the fun, of the image.  So their logo and the album cover is exactly as you would expect, all skulls and desecrated ruins and symbols, excellent, you know what you are getting, this is extreme Thrash METAL.

Get in the pit. Get messy.  Respect your fellow thrashers, and enjoy.
