OK Volca - Fréquence/Trémor album cover

OK VOLCA is a Hardcore Punk Metal band out of St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu, Québec. They were formed back in 2006 from the ashes of THE HAANG UPPS. In 2006, both bands did something together called ''Ouvre-Toé les Yeux'', which was showing the musical progression within the bands themselves. Most bands members are the same between both bands nonetheless.

There is a huge gap when you decide to form a band at 18 and when you are ten years older. Your life changes, you are not at the same place you were back then and your musical taste changes, sometimes for the good, sometime for the worse. As much as THE HAANG UPPS were more of a Punk Rock/Metal genre with a touch of Hardcore Metal, well OK VOLCA is the natural evolution of the band. It's straight out of 2000 Hardcore Metal, nothing fancy and just straight to the point.

There wasn't much bands out there in the province doing that genre, especially in French. This really superseded a lot of bands out there back then. I have alot of respect for that even though I still have that love/hate relationship with my own language but they have intelligent lyrics which were a bit refreshing. You can still hear than angst, that anger throughout the album yet it's still accessible to any fan of the genre no matter what language it is. You still have those political views you have usually in the genre and there is more maturity in the musicianship than their previous outfit. They seem more solid, more committed as a band and that's the maturity of ten years gone no less.

You have that uncompromising attitude really reminiscent of bands like REFUSED, EARTH CRISIS amongst others. Unbridled energy with a touch of violent aggression. They evolved as a band, as a unit and they did Hardcore Metal right, with no absolute compromise. If you enjoy early to mid 2000s Hardcore Metal, I think you should enjoy this album.
