ABORTED celebrate their 25th year together with another EP release. Making it 6 in 16 years as far as EP's go. Since their last release TerrorVision in 2018, Mendel bij de Lei has left as guitarist and Harrison Patuto has joined the band since this album has been released. Lets see what they have put together for us
"Gloom and the Art of Tribulation" starts off with a spoken sample as an intro, there is an almost electronic melody in the background at the same time. The instruments all kick in at the same time, its more like a Deathcore style of song with everything being very crisp, not exactly how we may expect ABORTED to run the song. It is very high tempo, the melodies work within each other, maybe not as Brutal Death as usual, but it works well. It is certainly vey technical which is how we are used to ABORTED, but for me it is a lot more experimental. Solid effort to start off.
"Serpent of Depravity" again starts with the technical style, but once again it could be more like a Technical Deathcore than Technical Death Metal song, just needs a bit more aggression and intensity for me. The song is very similar to the previous which makes sense and again the harmonies work well together. After the 2-miniute mark it takes the gears up a level and it is amazing, its exactly what it needed, and I would listen to a whole album like this song. Awesome song and a great change up when needed.
"Funereal Malediction" takes off from where we left of in the previous song, but it is executed better, more fluid from the off. A fantastic song, well-controlled and well-balanced. There is once more beautifully technical melodies with the aggression of Death Metal, not quite Brutal Death Metal, but almost. It is so well played through. I want more songs like this.
The unfortunate thing about EP's are they never seem to go on long enough. Once this album had got into full throttle it was nearly time to end. Solid start, awesome middle and fantastic end. Great EP. Keep up the good work and give us more.
