CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS is a band that mixes up different influences on its sound and they created something really cool for the fans of the genre. They have recently released their newest album "Lightning Our Veins" and thats what we are going to talk about.
The opening track "Feel Electricity" starts out with a good guitar lick that reminded me of IRON MAIDEN and I must say that Chip's vocals on the chorus reminded me a little bit of ALICE COOPER which I think it was nice. The guitar riffs aren't metal, but they sound pretty cool and fits perfectly the song. It was a good choice to open the album.
"The Tide Is High" starts out with a cool drumming sound and its soon joined by Malena's vocals and the more punkish guitar riffs. The vocals has a beautiful tone, but I think that they aren't that Strong and I believe that it could be improved as she knows how to sing and have a beautiful voice.
"Toxic Human" starts out with a nice guitar work and Chip's vocals hits in pretty soon. The chorus is kinda contagious and I believe that most people will sing it as soon as they hear it for the first time. There's a nice vocal work from Malena here as well and that was a good thing for the song.
"Bark at the Bad Romance feat Courtney Handlovitch" is a very weird song that mixed up Bark At The Moon by OZZY OSBOURNE with Bad Romance by LADY GAGA. If it was better structured, I could even think of this song as being something a little bit good.
"This Bomb Ain't Gonna Light Itself" starts out with a very punk vibe and its actually cool thing. "Iced Tea And Lemonade" is a very good ballad with Malena's vocals are pretty good and there's really good ambiance and vibe going on here. Great song.
"Glory" starts with some epic vocals but then it turns out into some reggae, but then it find its glory again on the chorus. I'm not even sure on what to say here guys... "Unbreakable" starts out with good guitar riffs and Malena's vocals hits in again. I still think that it should have more power and strenght, but they sound pretty good on the song, specially on the chorus which is probably one of the highlights of the whole album.
"Black and Gold Christmas feat The Black and Gold Christmas Chorus" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a good punk guitar riff that reminded me of GREEN DAY and there's a good vocal parts where it alterns between both Chip and Malena's vocals. The chorus is pretty happy and there's the vocal choirs. Its a good funny happy song. Great to end the material.
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS have written and released an album that has good highlights but also some lowlights. I couldn't find much consistency between the songs and I'm not sure if they wanna sounds like that, but to me they are still trying to find their own voice. Chip's vocals are good, but I think that Malena have a lot more to show us as she has a beautiful tone, but its not that powerful most of time. Well, it might be tasty for Metal and Punk fans, but also for the ones that appreciate Christmas songs.
