Visions of Purgatory

From the south of Sweden, SARCATOR, formed in 2018, emerges from a roar of dampened light. Their recent release of their compilation album entitled, "Visions Of Purgatory," features blackened thrash metal, with elements of traditional black metal woven like thread within the notes. Their design might seem ordinary, but their style and their influence are melodically exquisite.
"Purgatory Unleashed" begins with guttural vocals, and scratchy climbs. An overlay of mixed notes climb over a steep hill and fall to the double kick below. A tornado of higher pitched riffs sound in the background while the piece maintains its structure and expeditious steps. In a screeching act, "Deicidal" invites the voices of the unspoken. Harmonious guitars configure a melodic slow dance of obscure scenery where nothing is left unsaid to the open eyes. The track's drum pattern is meticulous, and beatific riffs mend a path that was forgotten years ago. "Desolate Visions" surrounds in familiar sounds and drowns in murky waters. The piece is old school in its making, constructing a melody that is uniquely memorable and striking. Its grooves, similar to the previous pieces, are meant to breathe and reflect upon preceding events. The final track off SARCATOR's latest release, "Sepulchral Noise," is an abstractly magnified vision of pulses through veins. Only forty seconds long, the piece manages to diverge from the other works to create something more innocent, something more dynamic. Although I do not think it fits with the rest of the compilation, it leaves the album off on an energetic mood to continue the journey elsewhere in time.
SARCATOR's rhythmic noise and rapturous riffs envision a tone that is vibrant. Adhering to classical patterns, the compilation seeks to also incorporate their own sense of ideals and thoughts that may be outside of the genre. Within a tremendous sonance of their tremolo picking, and track structure, the album is proficiently exuberant and well done.
