DARKTHRONE unholy DARKTHRONE. I don't feel there is a need for a review for their new album. I mean, come on, do you really believe that something has changed or do you expect to listen something other than their necro-black metal? DARKTHRONE is a name that always stands on the opposite bank of the metal river. That is what they've done in their beginning and that is what is happening now. After the release of The Cult Is Alive many conversations took place if they are still black metal and that will happen now. That's bullshit of course 'cause if someone believes that this recording is not black metal then probably has no idea of what he is talking about. I, really, don't remember many people back at the rise of 90s that were listening to this band; now all of them consider themselves as black metal masters with opinion for everything having constantly their mouth open telling nonsense. Well, they can put their opinions...you know where!!!
So, what really has changed? Maybe the will for giving interviews, the releasing of EPs, the removal of corpsepaint or that their faces in photos can be distinguished easily? Are we serious? And for all those, what is the exact connection with the music? Well, all of these reasons are gone away when someone is going to listen to heir music. That's it. End.
I said before, there is no meaning for any review, so the following can be considered as a text with names or albums you have to check and buy. Buy or F.O.A.D. fuckers!!!
1. These Shores Are Damned: First track and it's complete black metal. Vocals made by Nocturno Culto are - as always - great, with aggression and coldness. The riffs are killing me, the sound is as necro as always (yes, from Necrohell II), the drumming is perfect with a sound like a grave digger hitting some coffins with his rotten hand. Yes, he is a zombie!
2. Canadian Metal: The title is killer. No, the music has nothing to do with EXCITER or VOIVOD but the lyrics have. This song was also in the N.W.O.B.H.M. EP but here this version differs, mainly on vocals. Fenriz sings here and the high screams in the refrains are fucking metal. Sex With Satan is the first words (from PILEDRIVER). You must listen the Metal Inquisition now. The solo makes me lose control. Sometimes I'm on the sofa preparing and then having stage diving on the floor! This solo has something of the filth of the first MOTORHEAD albums.
3. The Church Of Real Metal: I don't believe my ears!! It starts in mid-tempo and in the refrain it transforms into ZEMIAL. Aaarrrggg!!! (ZEMIAL is a great Hellenic band that was later established in Australia and now I think they are in Germany. Buy now the Necrolatry and Face The Conqueror EPs. The last one, In Monumentum, is like a tribute to BATHORY and it's great too. Also their first recordings are cult Hellenic black metal in its best moments). After the second refrain there exists a BURZUM-like riff and above it a GREAT solo that starts like BATHORY and then Quorthon gives his guitar to Victor Griffin. Obey!!!
4. The Banners Of Old: What a song! Vocals by Nocturno Culto that looks like an ancient spirit lost and forgotten in his grave, trying to talk with you. It is so black that has negative consequences. It has an evil aura like I'm hearing Frost And Fire from CIRITH UNGOL.
5. F.O.A.D.: This is like VENOM, TANK, WARFARE, MOTORHEAD and the respective moments of SODOM. Imagine all these guys visiting a nunnery full of virgins, penetrating their assholes. This song is a middle finger to all plastic shity - so called metal - scene.
6. Splitkein Fever: Another one perfect black metal song, more dark than the night. The guitar sound is salt upon opened veins.
7. Raised On Rock: Same with F.O.A.D., and add something from PILEDRIVER in the refrain. I guess some of you may think that the lyrics are childish. Go fuck off!!! If you believe this, then you must be against VENOM, PILEDRIVER and the half of 80ies underground metal scene. Go away pussy posers! Metal!
8. Pervertor Of The 7 Gates: How can they write such good songs? Fenriz's vocals are deep into the HELLHAMMER mud. An evil, morbid song, pure DARKTHRONE.
9. Wisdom Of The Dead: This was also in the N.W.O.B.H.M. EP but this time in the end you can find some vocal hell. If this is not black metal then I'm the Pope. Darkness, hate and metal.
Well, dear metal headbangers, this album is not something that you'll buy and the next week will be forgotten. DARKTHRONE has the music, the attitude, the coldness and they are metalheads. And because they want your good you can find a list of treasures in their booklet (albums I mean) that they propose. May DARKTHRONE will be the gate for some to enter the real metal realms. Let me do the same thing with some of killer releases that a friend of their music may be find something good. If you like thrash buy now the new DEKAPITATOR album and in the black domains you must listen the new INQUISITION, MAYHEM and GALLHAMMER releases.
I must end and return to my coffin. The album is perfect and this is clear from its GREAT cover. A real metal cover, not like these computer craps of today. BUY OR F.O.A.D.!!!
