SEVEN SPIRES are a Symphonic Metal band out of Boston, Massachusetts. This is their second full-length album, three years after ''Solveig'' back in 2017. They toured relentlessly for the last album, to the point that they couldn't wait to get back in the studio and bring these songs to their audience. I remember hearing Adrienne Cowan saying that they were a bit tired of playing the songs countless days through and through. I saw the last leg of their headlining tour back in July and they were on fire and they told the crowd that the next album was almost finished. The fans were really happy about that tidbit but were probably not expecting waiting over 6 months to get new material though.
Well, the wait was so worth it! This is the best album I have heard in years and already my favorite of 2020. I am quite aware we are only in March but it's going to be tough to beat nonetheless. The production is top notch and they took their time to make everything count and it's filled to the brim with goodness. Many generations of fans can enjoy this album and you have a bit of everything. It's nicely balanced and Adrienne Cowan really shines and the guitar work is on point. Like I said beforehand, the production was solid and the audience is rewarded wholeheartedly. I believe that the recent AVANTASIA tour (which Adrienne did the parts of Candice Night) really influenced the sound of this album. There are a few songs that sound a bit like the awesomeness of AVANTASIA and breathes new life into the sound of the band. It's so satisfying to hear something that is empowering and shakes your foundations.
Adrienne Cowan can do everything and has one of the most genuinely beautiful voice in all of Metal. The seventh song is called ''Drowner of Worlds'' and she channels her inner Angela Gossow and just lets out those growls. I sure as hell wasn't expecting this and she does it flawlessly. She has this calm soothing clean voice and she can belt out the growls like the best of them. The artwork is great. The character on the boat really looks like someone out of the Final Fantasy Video Game Series and loved the background of the artwork with the Kraken. I don't know who did the artwork but they did a fine job honestly.
I usually don't talk about the videoclips a band does but both videos they did are breathtaking and they went all out. They are very story-driven and the visuals are stunning. They went out of their way to transcend their songs into videos and that's a lost art. They went above and beyond and these are visually stupendous. I also wanted to point out that the band members are extremely nice. They are really down to earth and make their fans feel appreciated. They talk to you like you are an old friend and they really listen to what you are saying. They are charming and just the best people and I will always have a big place in my heart for really nice people.
This band is not the next big thing, they are the present and the future of the genre. It's safe to say that this band is now head and shoulders above anyone else right now. They are on tour right now with OMNIUM GATHERUM and INSOMNIUM and they are also touring later this year with AMARANTHE and BATTLE BEAST. Please do not miss them, this might be the last time they will be opening for bands and soon enough they will headline some great venues throughout the world.
One of the very best Symphonic Metal albums in the last decade barnone!
