Pyogenesis - A Silent Soul Screams Loud album cover

What a killing opening these guys just created, for instance, the initial song "Survival of the Fittest", must be one of the best Pop Metal tunes I ever listened to from time ago. Imagine a killer expressive singer aka Jeff Scott Soto, mixed with a pounding menacing rhythm section tight like an oiled machine. Everything clicks and keeps you interested in more. A very olympic sound.

"Mother Bohemia" lacks a little of the urgency of the opening track but instead shows a brutal fast rhythm section. Good keyboards arrangements towards the end. The "I Can't Breathe" series brought me back some memories from my dad's ALAN PARSON record collection, includes a throaty effortless vocalization. "High Old Times" reminds a little of STYX and TRIUMPH, which is always a cool thing, major key anthemic songs that can make your day and even drop you to tears. "Will I Ever Feel The Same" puts the metal back on track, but the single piece of music that really got me, and it made me a fan, was "Modern Prometheus", sounds like BOSTON post-KORN guitar tunings. I love bands that can convey uplifting melodies with muscular riffs.

I'm actually intrigued with these guys, killer musicianship, terrific vocal harmonies; Brian May kind of licks, it is like a cybernetic version of COLLECTIVE SOUL with Heavy Metal bravado. The final cut shows all their majestic bag of tricks:  Gregorian chants, Andrew Lloyd Weber vocal crescendos, intermissions of thrashy riffs, QUEEN impromptus, gotta say that 'm not mad about the snare tone, but the vocal department slays so vigorously that I won't change a single étude from this piece. Did I mention the acoustic interludes? Every note rings properly, chimes like an old KANSAS record.

How can we summarize their sound? Take the ASIA chops, spice it with QUEEN soul, rock with KORN stamina and a little of ABBA catchiness. I want to see them live, know their backgrounds, get to see their creative process. Get this record and crank "Modern Prometheus" until your heart will stop.
