This review has been a tough one. This band has a pretty weird story behind it. I don't even know if the info I have mentioned above (label, line up etc.) is correct. I have spent much time researching about these guys. Below, I will try to provide you as much info as I can, in order to understand who and what these guys are. Believe me, there is no way you are going to be disappointed or waste your time with this band.
For all of you who don't know this band, Disincarnate is a Death Metal band (or project) that belongs to the acclaimed guitarist James Murphy. This album was released in 1993 via Roadrunner Records. What confused me was that many sites mentioned different line-ups and some even different record labels. Anyway, this reissue is enriched with the Soul Erosion demo (1992). I don't even know if this band is still active, especially after James Murphy was diagnosed with brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment.
So, this time I have to deal with one of the finest and overlooked Death Metal bands. These guys had really stretched the boundaries of Death Metal when this album was released. James Murphy and his bandmates deliver a hell of a brutal album, full of heavy grooves, incredible technique and a dark vibe that lurks in every single note. This album can easily be characterized as a guitar lesson for every guitarist! When you have a guitarist that has already played with bands such as Death, Obituary and Cancer in your band, there is nothing to be afraid of. Dreams Of The Carrion Kind is an album created by Murphy's incredible talent. This time he was not a part of a big thing, it was his own band. He could work exactly as he wanted. That's why Dreams Of The Carrion Kind is a brutal, yet melodic album. The rotten feeling of that old school melody blasting my ears. While listening to this album there were many times I was hit with that huge amount of nostalgia. The sound has been made razor sharp and there is no way you can be calm while you're under the influence of this Death Metal diamond! Except from this band's great technique, it is more than obvious that these guys can master the tempo tricks at an incredible level! This album hits you with fast and brutal riffing at the speed of light while other times leaves you knocked out with its doomy parts! There is no way you can escape this beast called Disincarnate!
So, this reissue of Dreams Of The Carrion Kind is the best way for the younger fans to get in touch with this band's work. It is also a great chance for the older fans to get the bonus tracks. As James Murphy says fire up your CD players and prepare to Revel in the fields of nightmare...
