Wolves of Thelema

CARONTE (2010) hails from Parma, Italy. The band's history has seen them share the stage with quite a few pro bands on the European festival tour circuit. Ye olde Facebook sayeth we can expect to hear a wee bit of the BLACK SABBATH, PENTAGRAM, ELECTRIC WIZARD, COUGH and DANZIG in their music and damn if we don't, even the DANZIG influence in Dorian Bones chanting croak. Rather smart this DANZIG inspiration and for me, this knocks the vocal and song arrangements up a notch on the groovy ghoulie scale and listen up droogs, "Wolves of Thelema" is squarely stretched out in ghoul occult rock territory.
The short but sweet rollicking roll of gorehound legends MISFITS "We are 138" is expanded on the second song "333". Track #5 "Amalantrah Sonata" spits out some other-world spook recitations iced on the way out by a sustainic guitar outro. "Quantum Ecclesia" track #6 is my favorite song on "Wolves of Thelema" and would be right at home on a good GHOST release. Dorian's vocal delivery is great here and he is over the top letting the tune fly as a majik crystal ball trip between your ears. Hang on kids, he does this same trick on the big rockin' "Black Hole Dawn" and blimey, he carries this one away with occult organ grind and the rest of the lads banging at full tilt.
I ponder the outcome if the audio production included more in-between the audio space. It sounds like the dense final mix sonics occupy every digital second on "Wolves of Thelema". I would like to hear a more judicious hand on the compressor-limiter masterizing while letting the band deep breath the dynamics and timbral nuance of their playing alá THE DOORS or the self titled DANZIG from 1988. Man, now that would be scary.
Bloody good show, CARONTE.
