Sacrifizer - La mort triomphante album cover

SACRIFIZER livere leur premier LP a la monde, intitulé "La mort triomphante," ç'est un grand evaluation des concepts profondeurs macabres et morbides de la psyché humaine à travers la medium du metal. An oddity in its own rite, the album-actually an EP and a half (the half being a demo and finished track)-focuses on more macabre and eldritch themes in terms of lyrics and presentation of material, something usually reserved for Doom, Death, or Black Metal.

The album begins strongly with the ambience of a fire providing sufficient backing for the introduction of an acoustic guitar played in fair style-similar to Gaelic and Celtic music-the guitar fades out on the quickened sweep of a chord as the charring fire drones on before, "The Grave Of Nosferatu," begins with a burst of guitar, bass, and drums. The music is rooted in Speed Metal and shows such immediately with the song barreling out in indiscernible speed and aggression. "Blackfyre Witch" continues the motif unflinching as the guitars sound in with relentless drive and speed segueing in the rest of the band. The title track "La mort triomphante," sets itself apart by commencing with a much slower and more defined rhythm as well as containing more distinct progressions within the song. The lyrics stand out for being written in French though due to the language barrier and recording fidelity are difficult to follow which is unfortunate as the words paint a pretty vivid picture managing to sound as if they crawled out of some lost manuscript from Poe. "Night Of The Razors," is from the band's previously released demo and features a large tone shift due to the addition. "Morbid Envenomation," is a wholly new included release the intro incorporates some odd and ringing harmonies that do well to establish the tone of the track before the instruments truly kick in

Due to the separate recordings the instruments and fidelity alter depending upon which track you're listening to, though the performance remains the same throughout, which is a good sign of consistency for the band. On the EP portion the guitars have completely scooped mids making them clear and distinct, but loud and separate from the other instruments; the bass sounds quite remarkable actually cutting a swathe through the mix without being oversaturated; the drums are consistent but lacking in crispness and definition; and the vocals are difficult to listen in for. The demo portion sounds almost as if someone got a live recording from just outside a venue, compressed in the wrong places, but the instruments are at least distinct. The new addition is similar to the overall sound of the EP section though is a bit more muddied on all fronts.

SACRIFIZER has a lot to offer when it comes to music, navigating around the morbid and creepy whilst remaining true to the roots of Speed Metal-this album screamed "Walls of Jericho," at certain points. The band builds off of one another pretty well but the lack of fidelity and definition might throw off potential listeners.
