From the Facebook page, BENIGHTED IN SODOM represents "music for the lost, suicidal film-noir sentiments, a place to fall in love with a stranger, broken paths to excess, the answer that's hardest to receive." He has been a very prolific writer, with "Carrier of Poison Apples" being his seventeenth release. The album contains eight tracks.

"Last Stop on my way to Hell" opens the album, with spoken word and whispered vocals. The sound is desolate and despondent...like all hope has been taken from the world. "Dead by 33" brings more of the same. It's almost Gothic Rock/Metal with a twinge of the supernatural. The guitars create a harrowing sound, dancing up and down the register. He repeats one line over and over..."if you knew what I was really like, you wouldn't try to stop me." "Open Heart, Open Grave" has a similar sound. I sincerely hope we get some diversity here at some point. The guitars create a droning dissonance while the drums roll away. There are very little vocals in this track.

"World Without Mend" sounds very similar to the previous songs...that same level off dissonance and hopelessness. Again, it's a song with very little vocals. "Raised Southern Baptist" is another song with nearly exactly the same sound. I get what he is going for here, but the repetitiveness is quite annoying. At least this song has a clean guitar passage to add a little diversity. "That Heroine Sleep" almost picks off where the last song left off. The guitars drive much of the sound here...that and his doleful vocals. "Heart-Shaped Box" is a cover of the NIRVANA song and is really the first song that brings some diversity to the table, with clean guitars and melancholy vocals. It's almost Jonny Cash on quaaludes.

"Never Ever After" closes the album...an eleven-minute beast. It's back to the original sound, with harrowing guitars and that slow-paced drone. I,Voinghanger Records usually sports some of the most unusual artists out there...it's one of the reasons I like to challenge myself as a reviewer to listen to things that are "outside the box." But his album was a miss for me. As I mentioned before, I get the feelings that he is trying to convey loud and clear. But each song sounds nearly exactly as the one before it, and that doesn't make for much of a useful or enjoyable listening experience.
