If you're looking for some good indie/alternative music to end the decade with, then look no further people. PINE is here with their self-titled debut album and from what I see its already making its rounds around the internet. Formed in 2014 from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; PINE first released an EP titled "Pillow Talk" in 2017. Along with touring in the United States and Canada, they are on their way to making big things happen in a genre that I feel in my opinion; really saw its peak in the mid 2000's.

The first song on the LP is "Within You" and right away it is brought upon with warmth and calming effects from the instruments. Darlene Deschamps vocals are absolutely phenomenal in every line she delivers. "Lusk" (which they also released a music video for) has a lot of the same qualities as the first track but gets slightly heavier in some parts. The grooves and vocal placements are very well done with this song. "Discord" has a section in it where the vocals are nearly acapella minus the instruments slightly popping in here and there.

"In Your Eyes" begins very slowly and keeps it at about the same tempo the entire time. In "Maladroit" the verse will have you singing and the choruses in it will leave you dancing. "Swollen" begins with vocals right away and will eventually get you to move along with the song. "Bluff" begins with the drums at the center point creating a simple yet catchy beat that flows very well throughout the beginning of the song. The final song on the album is "Lucida" and it begins with this really stretched out introduction that almost builds you up to the verse. This song has everything that the rest of the album offered packed into one song. It has; effects, speed changes, different vocal styles etc. I would have to say it is probably my favorite song on the LP and a great way to end the album.

All in all, after listening to "Pine" I myself am a new fan. This type of music really brings out the nostalgia in me. They almost remind me of bands such as LYDIA, BRAND NEW, or DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL. I liked the way they managed to keep each song different from each other and didn't start to sound repetitive. All around it was a well-produced album and very well crafted. I would love to see this band live. Check them out for sure via No Sleep Records.
