Formed in 1986 out of Sweden, SORCERY has released their fourth full length album "Necessary Excess of Violence". For fans of DISMEMBER and ENTOMBED this band will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire album. The band is comprised of Ola Malmström on vocals, Paul Johansson and Johan Vikholm on guitars, Tommy Holmer on drums and John Falk on bass. Be prepared to have your ears blown all the way out in the best way.
The first song up on the album is "The Stellar Circle" which is the perfect way to start off such an amazing album. This is Death Metal at its finest right here, no gimmicks just pure metal. Everything from the drums to vocals are completely on point. This song perfectly represents what the whole album is all about. The second song on the album is "Where We Were Born We Will Demise" which keeps up the brutal pace of the album. This song is Death Metal personified. I absolutely enjoyed this song from beginning to end.
Up next we have "The Darkest Part of You" which is on par with the previous two songs. This type of music is what made me fall in love with Death Metal in the first place. This almost has a groove feel to it and I love it. "Of Blood and Ash" actually is a bit harder than the previous songs and I did not think it was possible. This song just hits the spot in my metal heart. I definitely listened to this song a few times before continuing on this metal journey.
"I'll Be Gone in the Dark" is really fast paced and highly energetic. I really enjoyed this song a whole lot. I had recently really just stopped enjoying metal for the most part, but this album so far has brought me back. This is exactly what I needed for me to get my love of metal back. "Death is Near" starts off with someone repeating "death is coming" and then boom, the song kicks in like a ton of bricks to the face. This song completely tears the fricking house down. I recommend this album to absolutely everyone who loves old school and modern Death Metal. This is what has been missing from the Death Metal community for quite a while now. Yes, it's brutal and in your face but it's not over the top, it's just really well written Death. I will be playing this album for quite a while to come. There are several more songs on the album that I will let you draw your own conclusions on. In my opinion the whole album is immaculate. Well done guys!
