Dismal Spells From The Dragon Realm Part I

This is one of those releases that really gives you no clue ahead of time about what's about to come. I've usually had a good impression with these so called "blind albums", and guess what? This one was no exception. This release probably won't appeal to everyone, and that's okay. It's a very dense journey through epic landscapes. In fact, it would fit well in a Lord of the Rings type of movie, hence the band's name.
The first track "Unsung Spell of No Solace" is a first introduction to a place full of dark rhythms, and a very heavy atmosphere. Appropriately, we're given a very long time to hear it. Sometimes this type of track can become boring or monotonous. But I've found that if you can seek out the composer's intentions like I did here, you can turn a song like this into more than Metal. You can turn it into a way to find yourself all while enjoying some good black ambient metal.
"Enthralled by Majestic Winters Eternity" takes the same path tread by the first track, I think that this is done intentionally. One who dares to listen to this must (and I mean must) love epic movies, and like a good movie, this song can take you far beyond your dreams, making the environment a little epic, very dark for sure, but with a lot of memorable moments. I found it to pass from tranquility to destruction, from calmness to war. While I listened to this, I took a personal reflection of myself, read some of the books, and loved every single moment that I dedicated to myself, trying to understand what life's about. Although I may never find the true meaning, these kind of songs will help you to evolve a little more via the passing minutes.
The final two tracks , are along the same line, so I won't delve into repeating what I have already written. I think that if you are in one of those moments where you need to discover something else about your mind, or your heart and soul, this release can take you in the right direction. It sort of reminded me of a band called DARGAARD, which was a band that helped me through rough times when I was just a boy of 15. I think DRUADAN FOREST's Druadan "Dismal Spells... Part I" will be cathartic helping me through the new rough times, here and now in my 30's.
