Ohio's CURSE OF DENIAL unleashed their second full-length, "Coming for Your Soul", a blistering 53 minutes of Blackened Death Metal with technicality adopted from their former Technical Thrash Metal band, PAWNS IN CHESS. This album is one of those that seems daunting because of its longer length, but it actually end up going by quickly. This is largely due to the fact that the music presented here has enough elements and interesting song structures to keep it captivating.

"Faceless", for example, shows its listeners heavy atmosphere and different passages throughout the song. With nice hooks, heavy compositions and dark atmospheric sections, the song stands out as one of the album's best tracks. Each track also utilizes depth by having many different elements going on at the same time yet making it sound united. In this way, the music is very technical, and each track boasts fluency in this aspect.

Depth is seen often with the leads. Each track is full of solos, and whether they're short or lengthy, there are always plenty of them. "Dancing in a Circle of Corpses" shows the best chemistry between the rhythm and lead guitars, and the lead sections are epic and melodic. "To Carry My Sins" also shows great chemistry between the guitars.

One more thing this band excels in is songwriting. Each track goes in and out of riffs seamlessly, and the progression on some tracks is impeccable. "Coming for Your Soul" boasts intense skill in songwriting near the end as the tempo drops for the final chorus, creating a heavy and destructive atmosphere. "The Headless Horseman" also shows great songwriting with its unpredictable, melodic section in which the leads create a smooth yet fast ride while the other guitar, grooves along with an interesting rhythm.

Overall, this is a fantastic release, and I find it difficult to find a flaw that isn't just me nitpicking. This album is full of great songs, and I did not touch base on all of them. In fact, some of the best songs aren't even mentioned in this review, but I implore readers to take the time to uncover those songs for themselves, as I find it more beneficial to discover a gem on my own.
