CULT OF EXTINCTION is a Black / Death Metal outfit from Bremen, Germany. Little information about the band is found online, which adds to the mysterious qualities of the music. "Ritual in the Absolute Absence of Light" was released July 19th, 2019.

"Sacred Glorification of Pandemic" opens with a rhythmic pulse that leaves you wondering what's in store, along with what sounds like a Geiger counter going off in the background. With a strong apocalyptic vibe, the cinematic intro pulls you in and leaves you curious. The second track, "Anti-Monad Black Hole Bomb" opens with a very industrial sounding drum pattern over sludgy walls of power chords at a pretty moderate speed. Emphasis on industrial. Soon we hear some very interesting vocals, and a chorus of spacey leads bringing us to the final introduction of main vocals. The vocals caught me by surprise, they have some heavy reverb and what may be delay on them. Very hard to understand, but very interesting and unique.

"Blood of the Theurg" opens loud and proud with some really raunchy guttural grunts, and blisteringly fast blast beats. The guitar composition is very thrashy, but tasteful. I like the grunting, it reminds me of the Gamorreans from Star Wars. Next up is "Inverted Henosis" opening with a more cult approach than the previous tracks. The vocals are hanging out in the strange, heavily processed spot they have been, and I love it. The guitars are maintaining the Thrashy, Brutal Death style riffing employed throughout the album thus far. The blend of genres here is fantastic! Very unique, for sure.

The atmosphere created by Cult of Extinction on this album is truly masterful. The production is a bit on the poor side, but I believe it to be intentional. This is because of how well it works with the style of music, and the atmosphere I mentioned earlier. The lyrical content is primarily based around death and human extinction, which adds to the already dense atmospheric qualities of the music.

Overall I find this release to be extremely interesting, memorable, unique, and I surely can't wait to hear more from this band.
