What can I say? I'm still shocked but so grateful that I had the chance to face first this complete masterpiece. It's one of the reviews that could end up easily by just using three words, that says it all. BUY THIS ALBUM!
CRIMFALL is another young up starting project, that comes from the land of many successful Metal bands, Finland. Are they going to gain success soon? I bet they will! Describing the music of CRIMFALL is difficult...but as much as I hate tags, I have to do it in order to give you a little hint of their incredible world. So how would you react knowing that CRIMFALL plays Symphonic/Progressive power/Viking/Folk Îœetal with a great combination of angelic female vocals and Black Îœetal male ones? Rather weird maybe but this formula on this record, not only just works but brought to us maybe the best debut album of this year rolling and certainly one of my Top 10 records for 2009.
All started back in 2007 when the mastermind of the band Jakke Viitala came up with the vision of CRIMFALL and decided to surround this vision with two completely different voices. The harsh freezing cold black metalish voice of Mikko Hakkinen and the angelic warm sounding voice of Helena Haaparanta. Their first demo Burning Winds made quite a noise and Napalm was the lucky company to have them under their flag.
With a handful of skilful session musicians, using diverse instruments like accordion(!), violin and cello, entered the Adamantium Studios and now we are with As The Path Unfolds... in our hands! The orchestral epic atmosphere, succeeded mainly by the incredible production that many well-known Metal bands would be jealous of, makes it a clear majestic battle soundtrack!
Here there are no tracks that stand out, as it is one of those records that starts, ends and you push the play button again. Welcome to the heroic world of CRIMFALL...
